...just as he 'plans' to send out 1 million tests to the elderly and health workers

as covid cases explode in florida, he now wants President Biden to 'extend' expiration date and said they got to expire because there was no demand for them
"We had between 800,000 and a million test kits, Abbott rapid test kits, in our warehouse that did expire," Guthrie said, adding that they expired in the last week of December. He explained that the reason was that there wasn't adequate demand to use them. DeSantis added that he is asking the Biden administration to extend the expiration dates on the batch of tests.

The purpose of the press conference, attended by Insider, was to announce plans to send 1 million at-home COVID-19 tests to nursing homes, long-term care facilities, and other residences with high numbers of seniors in the state.
On December 30, according to the Florida Phoenix, Fried said that "Governor DeSantis' Department of Health has a significant number of COVID-19 tests stockpiled that are set to expire imminently."

"There's no known public information about these tests or how soon they expire," Fried said at the time. "With Omicron infections exploding throughout Florida, I beg of him to release these tests immediately to local counties and cities, and to stand up state-sponsored testing sites. To let these tests expire while Floridians anxiously wait for hours in testing lines for local tests that are running out."

In his defense, he likely had Covid so he was probably too exhausted to do very much.

So, let me get this straight.

1) DeSanatis had 1 million tests stockpiled in reserve. That sounds like good planning to me.

2) Desantais, and the state of Florida did NOT NEED THEM "because there was no demand ", because we had the lowest infection rates in the country. Again, that sounds like a good thing to me.

It wasn't until last week when all the blue state snowbird tourists came down to our FREE RED STATE that we even needed the tests.

Congratulations! You just showed what a COMPLETE FUCKING MORON YOU ARE!!!

omicRon is probably trending

i would lay odds his disappearance was due to him battling it away from public scrutiny

despite being against the American Relief package (as were all republicans voting on the package), desantis has publicly praised florida's own fiscal responsibility for the funding that's allowed him to invest in people. He never seems to acknowledge the source of the funds, and now is using approximately $35.5m of the $1B the state received to now send out $450 per child cheques to those most in need. It is tied, as per the funding rules (which his spokesperson complained about), to the officially unemployed and most in need. He's appropriated the covid funding to use as an inflation buffer... it's great these families will receive the money, and it's something desantis can tout as his humanitarian outlook for people in his state pre mid-terms. lol
In order to be eligible, families must qualify for the Florida Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program (TANF) — meaning they must be unemployed or underemployed, have a child or are pregnant, and have "low or very low income," according to state officials.

Florida's Department of Children and Families said they expect around 59,000 families to receive the check, and, like other COVID-19 relief funds, there's no application.

There are no words for your dishonesty. The story linked is almost 8 months old. The present facts are Covid deaths are way down in Florida.

bless your heart... i made the original post in this thread back in January, when this story was current. I have today added further information about his use of covid funding for a different measure (without crediting the relief package for the money) rather than start a whole new thread.

it's really not my fault you are dumb as a mud puddle, poster boy for the people trump loves bestest.

Ron DeSantis is convinced Biden’s stimulus caused inflation. His solution: use Biden’s stimulus to send inflation relief checks to Floridians

Last week, DeSantis announced a new strategy “to offset the costs of rising inflation.” Especially on the brink of a new school year, he said, “the State of Florida is giving you $450 for each child in your care,” DeSantis wrote in a letter accompanying the checks. “This one-time payment can be used for anything from buying diapers to fueling up at the pump.”
Where does this money come from? In part, the very same stimulus DeSantis derided for its supposed inflationary impact. The governor will use $35.5 million that Florida received from federal COVID-19 relief funds to mail checks to nearly 59,000 foster and adoptive families in the state, First Lady Casey DeSantis announced last week.
