Today, one of Lit's finest left. I thought everyone loved her. I guess I was wrong. In all of my years of knowing her....I never once saw her pile on. When drama occured, she was the one trying to de-escalate it. She never took sides. She walked a higher road. I never once saw her talk bad about someone. She never called someone a name. How about there? If you call someone a cunt....you are banned. There is a certain circle of women here that this has gotten to be an acceptable behavior cause they support each other. Since they refuse to police their own...if anyone calls another person a cunt...ban them.

Being a moderator is a thankless job. You'll never please anyone, all of the time.
Moderators truly need to be around often, or reachable via email/ reported posts.
I don't think moderators should be chosen via a popularity thing. They have to be impartial. And not pick sides. They simply have to do the job the owners ask, in the manner the owners want.
A non moderator thing. If the owners are not going to be around to do final moderation, they need to give the mods more power.
I know banning is hard, but I also know there are hacks that could easily be put in place for better punishment.
Truth be told. This is a big area. And needs more than you WOB. I think you do a great job when you're here, but this is an unpaid, volunteer job, and you need help. You should be able to have a life, and not stress when you're away.

I appreciate that, Sassy, and I agree with everything you said.

Anything that results in more naughty bits being displayed.

Speaking of which, love the AV WOB. #NicePooper

Doxxing and threats should be automatic bans. Excessive off-topic disruption of threads should be three strikes and your out. I don’t think nonthreatening arguing should necessarily be actionable.

I don’t disagree with any of this. Mods don’t have the power to ban users, only to recommend bans to site admins. Bans are meant for consistent or egregious breaking of forum rules.

I get messages from users often that frankly do not break any rules. I can’t be your personal mod who ‘gets rid of someone’ because you don’t like them. That is unfair.

There are rules when it comes to harassing and bullying on here. I dealt with you once when there was a Litster who was harassing me on the threads. When I brought it to your attention, you just said it was banter and you weren't going to do anything about it. You obviously don't know the difference between banter and just plain harassment. Or maybe it was just that the person who was harassing me was a "friend" who was literally a troll on here and you didn't want to do anything about it.

Thankfully, when I reported it to Laurel (which should have been your job) she seen it was harassment and he was banned within the hour. No help from you, thank you.

Jade, I haven’t found any evidence that trying to have a dialogue with you is productive.

I actually reported that user to Laurel and that’s why he was banned. I can send the receipts. You have no idea what, who, or when I communicate with- as you shouldn’t, because just like I don’t air your business when you reach out to me privately, neither do I share anyone else’s. Frankly, you do not have enough of the picture to judge.

Someone posting in the same threads as you that you don’t like is not harassment by any definition. I’m sorry, it isn’t.

The "rules" may be part of the issue here. I think that we can agree that doxxing and threats are one thing...but what about the recent issues we have had?

Specifically when users are verbally abusive, and are intentionally and clearly making the environment so toxic and, frankly unpalatable and so undesirable that dozens of users would rather deactivate their accounts rather than subject themselves to daily toxicity, hatefulness, and barely-deniable threats...and we as a community have no recourse to protect the community we have built because the rules haven't accounted for this as an occurrence?

And I'm not talking about a random disagreement or someone calling someone a dick or a cunt. I'm talking patterns of behavior that are clear and malicious to other users.

Our choices are to hope for moderation...or leave?

That is a pissed poor set of choices. And again, not your fault, WoB...but we as a community can do better and need to. Because to continue as we have lately with no recourse but to use a broken ignore button or to leave Lit entirely in disgust and/or fear is NOT acceptable.

You’re right. There should be a middle ground.

As ever, if you have a problem or see a user who is consistently problematic, please PM me so I can review their posts and address them directly.

I can also send you the PMs that you and I had during that time which proves you didn't take any of it serious. I can also send you the link to the posts in the What Are You Thinking thread where it shows he was harassing me. I saved everything. And you're right, we will never have a productive dialogue because I know the kind of person that you are. From where I'm sitting, you don't care about the PG or any of us Litsters. All you care about is making sure the threads don't go past 5000.

Whatever.

I’m too biased.

That’s the paradox. Laurel won’t make anyone a PG mod who isn’t an active PGer (even me, once upon a time). You have to be party of the board with a proven track record of not causing drama or being a problem.

Anyone who fits that bill will by nature be biased.

Okay. Which one of you PG cunts cried to mommy Bath? JerseyJade? Was it you?

I bet it was.

Have you thought of helping her? ^^^^ sometimes a female mod and a male mod can do a pretty fabulous job.

Someone who stops the jackasses who think they have the right to attack anyone who doesn't post by their reindeer game rules.
