In the UK which is further advanced with Omicron spread than the US - the figures are massively more infections, death rates rising and hospitalizations increasing - and we haven't seen the real effect tor Omicron on the latter two yet.

We still don't know enough about Omicron to justify the scare stories.

But what we have in the UK, with rising Omicron infections, is an increase in deaths and more hospitalizations. According to an NHS source, yesterday's figures show that between 80% and 90% (they are still working it out accurately for yesterday) of those needing in-patient care in hospitals are unvaccinated younger people.

How many of those are from Omicron? Not many. It is too soon.

As I have said elsewhere, we don't yet know enough about Omicron to make predictions - except that it is infecting more people.

We will probably have a better idea by Jan 1st. Until then, we in the UK are already dealing with increases in infections, in deaths and in hospitalizations mainly from Delta.

The impact of Omicron on deaths and hospitalizations? We don't know yet. It could be worse. It might mean a minor increase. But even if the deaths and hospitalizations as a result of Omicron are a smaller percentage of infections - that could be enough to use all emergency care beds.

They are recorded as death WITH Covid 19. For the latter, Covid 19 is on the death certificate as a contributing cause but not the main cause. The daily national figures include OF and WITH.

Until recently i.e. about a month ago, the figures were roughly 79% OF Covid (and nothing else) and 21% WITh Covid but if it hadn't been for Covid they might have lived longer.

The indications, without really accurate data yet, is that the percentage of people classed as died OF Covid is increasing and mainly among the younger unvaccinated who had no underlying health issues before Covid.

We have never separately kept track of people who died from whatever they died from and happened to have influenza at the time. We certainly didn't keep list of people who died from whatever and are suspected to have had influenza. It's all nonsense. I know I am at serious risk. According to two medical consultants I should have been dead two and half years ago. (See? Even I can ignore medical advice!) I'm enjoying every day that I'm still around. If I catch Covid? Even triple jabbed my chances of survival are very low.

If I die? It will be WITH covid, not FROM Covid. My other issues will kill me. They have been trying hard but they are failing so far.
