President Joe Biden settled back into hiding at the White House on Monday as he cleared his schedule of any public events.

Biden returned to the White House from another weekend at his home in Delaware, but he did not engage with reporters shouting questions about the death of his Build Back Better bill or Sen. Joe Manchin’s (D-WV) declaration that he would not vote for it.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki will take the lead on messaging at the daily briefing, as Biden continues hiding from questions about the future of his legislation.

What is there to say other than we will continue to see if we can find some middle ground.

DAMN YOU OBAMA! In the rational world we'd just find something Manchin wants money for in his state so he can go home and say yes I helped the rest of the country but each of you will benefit from (I'm sure he has a pet project.)

In his case, I don't think it will be that easy.

Staying sequestered in the WH memory unit is the best thing for him at this time. Whenever he has his next “good day” he’s got a cleanup on aisle 4.

So now being at the white house is considered hiding?

I mean..he was just in Kentucky last week.

I don't believe we live in a rational world either my friend. Just sating this problem in ye olden times would have been solvable. Hell with Sarah Palin, Boebert and AOC off the top of my head (I'm sure there are other hotties) a Wet T-shirt context touring the college campuses in the red states would probably do more good than harm.

Regardless I do think horse trading is a legit way of getting things done. The fact that we are so large a country and divided the way we are there isnt' much that affects everybody equally. Nobody in Arizona gives a fuck about money going to shipping ports. Does Montana even have natural disasters? Border problems?

Yes, and they attacked him for that too. The man could walk on water and Fox News' headline would be "Biden Can't Swim".

His pet project is the coal industry. That's the problem, there's really no middle-ground to be had. Coal is a dying industry in every sense of the term, and West Virginia is going to remain one of the poorest states in the union until some other industry takes hold there. If Manchin really cared about his state, he'd be doing all he could to make that happen. Instead he just made himself a rival to Ted Cruz for the least popular member of the Senate (the Republicans may be delighted with him now, but he did vote guilty in Trump's impeachment - they'll never forgive that).

When I learned about American civics, I learned that Congress would craft bills and attempt to gain consensus with all of the house members and senators. The idea was to actually find common ground. The fact that Congress is full of people with different opinions and agendas is not a bug, it is a feature. All of those different personalities actually average out to a fairly reasonable person, and if you appeal to most of the Representatives and Senators, you likely have legislation that appeals to the center.

These days, the game is to get a slim majority and then terrorize your party's members into voting 100% in lock step with the party authority so you can ram through the most extreme legislation you can.

Frankly, that sounds unstable and broken to me. As much as I dislike the government, at least when there was an appeal to the common ground, it had the potential to develop something constructive.

Tweet today from NYT Washington correspondent Katie Rogers. In the aftermath of the demise of BBB, Biden announced some big changes is the White House. Major is gone! I thought Ron Klain would be gone. Maybe this is just first of a series of WH shake ups coming as they try to right the ship in 2022.

“After consulting with dog trainers, animal behaviorists, and veterinarians, the First Family has decided … it would be safest for Major to live in a quieter environment with family friends.”

For a long time now, the Pubs have been far outperforming the Dems in terms of party discipline, and in extreme legislation, and in making the most of a slim majority, and in obstructing anything the opposition tries to do even if they had the idea first.
