WASHINGTON, Dec 19 (Reuters) - U.S. Senator Joe Manchin, a moderate Democrat who is key to President Joe Biden's hopes of passing a $1.75 trillion domestic investment bill, said on Sunday he would not support the package.

"I cannot vote to continue with this piece of legislation," Manchin said during an interview with the "Fox News Sunday" program, citing concerns about inflation. "I just can't. I have tried everything humanly possible."

In a statement released after the Fox News Sunday interview, Manchin said that increasing the U.S. debt load would "drastically hinder" the country's ability to respond to the coronavirus pandemic and geopolitical threats.

"My Democratic colleagues in Washington are determined to dramatically reshape our society in a way that leaves our country even more vulnerable to the threats we face," he said in the statement. "I cannot take that risk with a staggering debt of more than $29 trillion and inflation taxes that are real and harmful to every hard-working American at the gasoline pumps, grocery stores and utility bills with no end in sight.

He's just doing what he's been doing....negotiating in bad faith while claiming otherwise.

We'll still pass it next year.
It won't be to the level that the administration wanted, but it will be good for the American people and Trumpies will be pissed as will deficit hawks.

Usually legislative proposals go-in Bill Bradley's words-"from impossible to inevitable." BBB went exactly the other way. Biden, Schumer, and Pelosi have no one to blame but themselves. Incredibly stupid to think they could have passed a green new deal with a 50/50 Senate. I suppose if they pass a funding extension for post office or perhaps an enhanced Lexus tax credit or something like that next year they can still call it “Build Back Better.”

Yes, pure speculating it won't pass. Youve all been doing that for.every legislative effort...and yet it still moves ahead.

Good luck to you. You do more victory laps prior to the end of the road than anyone else I've ever seen

Yep...it wasn't a door slam as the op says...he said what he would do months ago....more like grandma shutting the door after the grandkids have come to visit.

He's wanting Republicans who support trump to vote for him..and based on this forum, they absolutely will.

Annoying for us who want the bill passed right now, but excellent for his political strength.

The peal of clashing brass balls reverberates throughout the Senate chamber as the long thought to be extinct Democrat alfa male makes his presence known. Welcome back Joe, the country needs you.:D

Glad he has your vote. Will you still vote for him when he helps pass the bill?

His limit was 1.5 trillion....if Biden gets with it he will lower the budgeted amount to pull Machine back in....then it's Done deal.

I don't live in his state, so I not going to be voting for him. I can recognize his courage, however. Stand-up people in the Democrat party are all but extinct. Senator Kyrsten Sinema, has more balls than 99% of the men in the Democrat party. Kudos to her as well.

And yet the person in your party, who votes on almost all of your policies is a rink.

You may have an optics problem.

So, he's lying, what else is new.

It's a lot harder to pass a bill like that next year. It's too close to the election. It will be a lot harder to get moderate democrats up for reelection on board.

I've never denied the existence of deep state RINOs in the GOP.

Never mind,...you don't get my point .. obviously
Youl embrace political opposition who votes against your interest and kick out those who support your policies

There is no Deep State.

In other non-Deep State news, the lawyer that altered documents to help along the unjust and illegal surveillance of Carter Page and the Trump Campaign has had his law license reinstated.

It's good to be Deep State, isn't it?

It's also going to be harder for the likes of Manchin and Sinema to get re-elected.
