This is about not overwhelming hospitals to the point that they can't attend to regular business.

It is also about opening up society to everyone by reducing infections to the point that the elderly and people with other comorbidities don't feel like they're constantly being exposed to the virus.

Talk about losing your "freedom" or having it infringed upon. Think about those who are being confined because a significant number of younger healthier citizens refuse to get a simple vaccination.

We still don't know much about Omnicron except that case numbers in the UK are doubling every week. It appears to be much more transmittable than the Delta variant but whether it causes severe disease? We don't know and won't for a few weeks yet. We can hope that it is milder.

The UK is going hard to get everyone with a third jab because it seems two aren't enough to deter Omnicron but three jabs seem to provide 75% protection.

So far the numbers of hospitalizations in the UK seem to have plateaued at a lowish level but the impact of Omnicro hasn't really come through yet.

If Omicron is transmitted more easily and produces some hospitalizations? We in the UK could be in deep shit.

If I've been keeping up properly it also seems to be less likely to cause severe reactions. Which to me a mixed bag of "well its less likely to kill you" but do we really want to let our gaurd down knowing it might mutate again? I know the only reason I'm not exhausted of this shit is that it has become a game.

There are certainly enclaves within the government that seem to have that as a goal. Going to be interesting to see the reactions when this particular variant really starts to spread.

Speaking of spreading, looking at the rate which Delta spread and now being followed up by Omicron it would seem to me that folks should be becoming aware that there is nothing the various governments can do. They can make noises and issue orders but the virus just doesn't care.
