What do you do with stories that are too dark for Literotica or otherwise break some rule? Do you have another website you like to post them to or do you keep them to yourself?
Also this is my first post, I hope I've done everything correctly.

As long as you don't break Lit's rules, nothing can be too dark for Lit. there are readers for almost any story.

As for stories that break Lit's rules? I don't write them.

As long as it doesn't break the rules, I don't the a story will be rejected for being too dark. There are plenty of dark stories here.

I don't think the question was necessarily about whether Laurel would allow it on the site, but rather if it's the right place to post the story at all. And it not, where do you put it?

I'm curious about any replies to this question as well.

Yeah, check the rules before you get too far. I was working on a story last year during the peak of the virus lockdowns, and my depression dealing with real life pushed the story line to a very, very dark place.

I re-read the rules and determined I had crossed a big line, so it sits in the can unlikely to ever see the light of day. Probably better off for it.

Yeah, but why are you all telling her this? Why shouldn't she be allowed to write whatever she wants if it's not even necessarily coming to this site?

Define dark. My stories are on a site that some might call dark, but I posted one here without any problems.

Sorry. I was speaking to publishing on Lit only. My bad.

Not sure what the OP considers dark, but I would take it as meaning anything that doesn't necessarily romanticize sexual relationships at all but can depict it at as revolting or unethical.

If there's snuff (violence for sexual titillation), then your story will be rejected on lit.
See:https://forum.literotica.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=175666

I had a story rejected for 'snuff' because a character was murdered during sex. It wasn't meant to be sexually titillating, but it got rejected nonetheless. Fixed it by moving the murder to right after the sex. It didn't really detract from the story, so I didn't mind. But yeah, if you got a murder happening during sex, good chance it might be rejected.

Edit: oops, misread the original post. But I guess my point still stands. If it gets rejected, chances are, its not because its too dark.
If it does get rejected on that basis, then I'm interested in knowing where you end up posting it, because I want to read it!

My Fall and Rise

Crime? Check.
Drug Addiction? Check.
Sexual Assault? Check.
Imprisonment? Check.
Murder? Check.

I say, go for it.

I think you should help us help you by defining dark. In my Mickey Spillane story I killed 21 people. In the one I am currently writing -- anther detective mystery -- I'm killing a fiance, there is patricide, and murder covered up as a fake suicide and my detective has even shown up yet!

So what do you consider too dark?

I'm sorry, I was a little vague. I was thinking of a story that I had rejected due to the theme being a specific kind of sexual violence that is on the extreme side, not necessarily meant to be arousing, more just an idea that wouldn't leave my head. I was wondering if there was somewhere else I could take that story. I'm not sure it would have much of an audience anywhere, but I thought I'd ask anyway to see what other people have done.

A lot of stories that are rejected here because of content can find homes on other sites. You will need to check the rules on whatever site interests you.
