just hours before President Biden's speech for Bob Dole

unlicensed, loaded(?), "forgotten" gun... forgotten my arse

The police also heaped additional charges on the suspect, 57-year-old Jeffrey Allsbrooks, who said he forgot the gun was in his bag. He now faces charges of possession of an unregistered firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of unregistered ammunition, and possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device.

Initially, police said Allsbrooks was tracked down four minutes after officers in the Longworth House Office Building spotted the image of a handgun in a bag on an X-ray screening machine at about 7:10 a.m. on Thursday.

Staff and members of Congress shuddered to think of the kind of damage that could have been done had the suspected actually wanted to harm anyone, as it happened on the day President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and congressional leaders gathered to honor the late Sen. Bob Dole as he lay in state.

only takes one to get through.

why did it take 12 minutes between identifying the gun and tracking down this cunt?

and all the more reason why the ONLY armed people in the most important houses in the land should be the capitol police security forces. anyone else attempting to bring their guns inside these federal buildings should face automatic fines and bans from attendance on a sliding scale.

I can't believe those things are crimes.

What a bunch of anti-American scum.

it would be really interesting to find out who he works as an aide WITH.

People who feel the need to carry at all times are just scared pussies. Without them they cant leave their house.

Sort of funny where this "discussion" is going. In the last news I saw, the Capitol police were said to have thought it was the wrong person and went after a white woman as having the gun when it was a black man who had. it.

Happens all the time to folks, that's what the capitol police are for.

Even if it were that simple (and it isn't), doesn't the presence of the capitol police preclude any need for individual staffers to carry guns?

That's why the Capitol Police and they alone are allowed to go armed in those buildings.

No, elitism is why.

It is.

Congress critter shouldn't have special privilege's.

No, why would it?

No dumbass. They scope out victims. Who is the easier target
you mean like, say, getting a job in government and then taking a gun to work when you know that you'll be seeing the president? that kind of scoping out?

Guns are not allowed inside the building. If attempting to bring one in is subject to criminal penalties, that’s fine. Severity of the charge and punishment is probably dependent on whether there’s evidence of intent to cause harm. If it was an honest mistake, he’ll probably get a slap on the wrist.
