Justice Department Closing Emmit Till investigation

I think race relations are more like the Kenyan family that was just at my house for our annual Breakfast with Santa. It had been a while since we had seen them, and were overjoyed that they came and we were able to catch up.

oh look....Bug has Negro friends. Just like Queerbait and Ishmael. How special!

That case was in the 1950s -- didn't the investigation end when the defendants were acquitted?

(AIUI, they were acquitted because the body was so badly damaged it could not be positively identified as Till's. No DNA testing in those days.)

I see a possibility of a simple resolution for racial tension and grievances. The covid shots are looking more fatal daily, with survival dropping sharply with boosters. The US has much lower vax rates of blacks and Hispanics. The white and Asian population will probably drop sharply over the next decade. Survivors will inherit the earth.

Just pointing out that my day to day interaction with people of other rces and ethnicitis is uniformly friendly, cordial, mutually beneficial and not the fraught, tense battle that the Left so desires. In the end, it's all about personaly behavior.

Bug has no issue with the colored as long as them shufflin' grinnin' Negroes shut they mouth and know they role.....

In the case of our friends, they're database admins at a large MNE. So far as I've been able to detect, that doesn't involve any shufflin'.

Try not being a pig for just a few moments, Rob. Try it on.

Did you mention about "Chocolate Jesus" and "'Burito'-Head" to them over dinner too, or do you save those special ethnic-ky bon mots just for us, your online friends? :)

Oh,, they have worse than that for the likes of Obama and Omar. The Africans at our chuch want nothing to do with domestic blacks.

That was what the defense argued. But you know as well as I, the REAL reason why they were acquitted was because it was Mississippi in 1955.

I'll admit, your after-dinner digestif stories are hilariously convenient in their structuring. With a capable editor, you'd probably squeeze out some good amateur yarns from that fertile mind.

uhh...non-erotic, of course. Your pastor and Jesus wouldn't be keen on that! ;)

And the true Bud comes out as usual!

He's funny when he tries too hard and his seams show. :D

AFRICAN DRUG DEALER: I am sorry, but we cannot do business with an akata.

ROEMELLO SKUGGS: [looks puzzled]

ADD: African-American.

RS: [still puzzled]

ADD: Cotton picker.

RS: [attacks]

Till was from Chicago. He did not know the rules governing race relations in the South, the rules violation of which was generally understood to be punishable by extrajudicial execution -- he might have heard of them, but did not know them in his bones the way every AA who grew up there knew them. The most important of those rules was: A black male must never touch a white female, must never try to flirt with her, must never show the slightest degree of sexual or romantic interest. Even to look her straight in the eyes might be dangerous.

Of course, it isn't clear that Till actually did anything at all. His accuser eventually admitted that at least some of the accusations weren't true: https://www.vanityfair.com/news/201...r-of-the-emmett-till-case?mbid=social_twitter
In the Jim Crow South, of course, an accusation from a white woman was all it took, no matter how unsupported by facts.

Till's mother, for her part, later said she had advised him, in the event of any altercations with white people, to get on his knees and beg forgiveness. Understandably he probably wouldn't do that in a case where he literally hadn't done anything except buy some bubblegum.
