New York Moves to Invalidate American Citizenship
Dale Wilcox|Posted: Dec 06, 2021 1:14 PM

While many Americans have been focused on the endless carnage the Biden administration has wrought on our border, New York City is on the verge of passing radical legislation to give migrants the right to vote in city elections.

The proposed bill would allow roughly 800,000 non-citizens to vote as long as they have legal status or a work visa. The legislation is expected to be voted on next month and has the support of incumbent Mayor Bill de Blasio, as well as incoming Mayor Eric Adams, whose framing of the bill has been misguided, if not intentionally deceptive.

"We cannot be a beacon to the world and continue to attract the global talent, energy and entrepreneurship that has allowed our city to thrive for centuries if we do not give immigrants a vote in how this city is run and what our priorities are for the future," Adams said.

Adams’ point is nonsensical because studies have demonstrated that the vast majority of migrants who come to the U.S. are economic migrants. Most of these migrants come from poor countries, and simply want to live and work in a prosperous one. In other words, most migrants are attracted to America because of our wealth, not our civics.

It’s true that many non-Americans have admiration for our system of self-government and our way of life, but Adams’ comments about attracting migrants by immediately letting them vote is nothing more than an attempt to distract from his radical policies with flowery language. In reality, legislation like the one destined to pass in New York is a reward for economic migrants, many of whom do not pay taxes, drive down wages, and are not in a position to contribute anything to the U.S. economy.

"Invalidate American citizenship"? Aren't the Pubs all about states' rights and decentralized government? How can they object to this as a local decision?

And it's bullshit to say immigrants "do not pay taxes," etc. See Myths and facts about immigration to the United States.

The pubs are not about letting the world determine their destiny. That belongs to citizens. New York is governed by subversives.

Some cities already do this. Nothing new.

It didn't invalidate.citizenship then and it doesn't now

New York is governed by New Yorkers, who speak more than 100 languages already, citizens included. How can you call them "subversive" in deciding how to govern their own community? What are they subverting?

We're talking about citizens vs foreigners, not Americans who speak different languages, although all should speak English.

All do, if only as a second language, speaking some other language at home. I see no reason why a Pakistani who has lived five years in NYC cannot make just as valuable a voter and participant in the city's public life as a native-born Archie Bunker type in Queens -- if anything, one could make a better case for disenfranchising the latter.

Nobody is talking about a citizen voting. I'm talking about NY letting non-citizens vote. thus diminishing American citizenship.

Do you even live there? Letting noncitizens vote for the mayor and council of NYC does not diminish your citizenship.

The hell it doesn't. it dilutes and cancels the votes of actual citizens. It's most probably a violation of Section 1 of the 14th Amendment as well.

Peck with more of his blatant denial of reality LOL

You're the one who wants every state and city free to go its own way -- on what basis do you object to this instance of that?

It DIRECTLY undermines the Union and the existence of the nation state.

Even more so than your open and direct undermining of the nations borders and immigration laws.

If you don't want to respect US citizenship that's fine, but I think NY or NYC needs to leave the union first.

If Congress were smart they would pass legislation that would offer the states the options of respecting the union as a nation state (borders and citizenship) and the American democracy that it stands for.

OR......get the fuck out.

No need to be ugly, but if you're not going to follow the laws of the union that American democracy has set, then you don't get to be in the union. Buh bye.

Yep, I agree...it's a local.matter that furthers the notion of citizenship. Buy in to the place you live and work to become a formal citizen....very Liberal and Democratic.

And since Republicans have no chance of winning in NYC who cares what the dunderheads think.

You know, there was a very long time in American history when citizenship was a fluid concept, and immigrants who had never been legally naturalized voted as a matter of course.

I'd trade a non-citizen who values this country, hard work, community, liberal ideas and democratic values over you any day of the week.

You mean the country you're actively subverting by degrading it's borders and citizenship??

LOL... yes we know you're anti-American, illiberal and un-democratic.

That's the problem with you progressives. :D
