Near and dear to my inclinations: Holidays often have a materialistic bent that just doesn't fit in with what these holidays are all about (the religious part).

Buy nothing groups are growing all across the US and the world (it isn't a new concept) and can help rehabilitate serial shoppers and maybe even elevate religious holidays back to what they were years ago.

So, buy nothing if you want and leave people free to do what they want to do.

You know Christmas was basically drinking and orgy holiday right?

Who gives a shit. it is what it is now. It's probably different all over the World. Why should we care how it is in any other place but our own homes?

Like women's healthcare, abortion, and premarital sex?

December is partly a time of disgust for me. Stores are crowded and noise polluted with syrupy glurge shopping music so people can buy unnecessary and often unwanted gifts. Ignoring that BS as "not my problem" can work for a while, but there are practical reasons to notice and care. We have social pressure to spend recklessly and thousands of bankruptcies every year.
