Afghanistan was irreparably botched the moment we didn't pull out immediately after scattering Al Qaeda and the Taliban, same in large part is true of Iraq and the conflict with ISIS. If we need to redraw the maps as the various tribes and governments start to stabelize so be it. IT won't be the first time in that century or so that we've done so and the first time we've let the locals take care of it on their terms. A good chunk of the problems we are facing today have directly traces to how we, The west collectively, Russia, the Brits and the French played as much or more of a role in how the Ottoman Empire was carved up than the US who didn't have a lot of personal interests in that did. We're just pissed that we've spent decades of the chickens coming back to roost.
