Edited for PS: I even spent Halloween night alone in a supposedly multi-haunted 13th Century Manor House. I was the nightwatchman.

I heard nothing. I saw nothing. I felt nothing. Perhaps it was the multiple pints of good local beer I had drunk in the evening, but apart from going to the toilet in the early hours, my sleep was undisturbed.

A year later, while my friends were telling each other ghost stories by firelight, I was in the attics, rattling my chains and moaning. It was a waste of my time and effort. They didn't hear me because the building was so large.

But some of them claimed to have seen the ghost of the headless horseman, and the servant maid whipped to death. I blame the beer.
