...INCEST STORIES!

Just published my first one. Went online at 1:30am EST. 13 hours later: 9.6k views, 201 star ratings (4.44 rating) and 16 "added to favorites." Oh, and 6 new followers

Is incest the most popular category? I suppose I could try a Loving Wives story next and compare results lol.

Both Incest and Living Wives are the most viewed categories but the trolls can be vicious in Loving Wives.

My formula for success is:

Just keep posting more and more stories...

I don't really know the first thing about writing a Loving Wives story, so I think I'll save myself that suffering lol

Incest/Taboo is, by far, the most popular category at Literotica. It's not even close. Loving Wives is second, but it's a distant second.

Illustrated stories can do very well, too, but that's a niche category, with relatively few stories and no particular focus.

My incest stories on average get over three times as many views as my non-incest stories.

It sure seems most popular to me, both here and on Smashwords.

I don't know about IR on Literotica, but from what I see on other sites and Pornhub's search map I'd expect it to be big in the U.S. if nowhere else.

Yeah I'm starting to notice that lol.

I suppose this is incentive to start work on another incest story I've had an idea for; something a bit longer and more complicated than the simple One Hand Read tale I just posted. And I of course have a follow up to it planned.

Publishing in I/T will definitely get your story attention. If that's how you define success then it's a simple key, and you're holding it your hand. More generally, the secret to success on Lit is to define a personal standard for success that doesn't depend so much on readers' reactions.

One more on the beach there, Simon :).

I'm just having a little fun with it, that's all. I don't judge the "success " of my stories on votes or views.

It's honestly not even my best work, just a simple Spank Story.

Just getting a kick out of how fast the reactions have come in compared to everything else I've written

My first story here was in BDSM, couple comments, not a lot of votes, okay score. My second-no longer on here-was a foot fetish/femdom piece, even less.

My third was chapter one of a brother/sister story. When I came home from work that day and say it had 400 votes in its first day I thought it was an error.

Taboo is the biggest category here, it sells the most (in erotica) on any platform that allows it, and its the top searches in porn(although its usually step sis/mom)

Why? No real idea, its just is.

If you want a lot of votes its the best category and like Notwise said if that's how you deem success, that's fine. Only way we get paid here is in numbers, right?

For me, success is as simple as if I get a few comments where the reader points to something I was striving for, let me know I hit the mark so to speak. That makes me happy.

But if you write a bunch of I/T then some sour people here will start making cracks about easy scores and writing and reinventing the wheel, anyone can do it etc...

Ignore that, jealousy is an ugly emotion-and all the I/T detractors have something in common; they have written in I/T to get the votes at least a couple times:D

There are people here who associate me with strictly I/T as I do like writing it.

But I also have a story with 23k votes in...first time. and two over 10k in...mature and have placed in lit contests in 5 different categories.

Which is one way of saying that you can have success in other categories with the right story, its also a way of saying FU to the people who denigrate I/T writers.

The category that always surprises me is Mature. There's a ton of readers there.

I'm suprised that it has more readers than Lesbian or Group Sex.

<----- Joining the choir.

When I first started posting here it was mostly in NR. I don't know why. Working out my inner demons I guess. I didn't know about the IT category and wrote a six part NR story that was sort of about incest: fucking my fiance's sister. A lot of views.

I co-wrote one that ended up in Trans, moved over to a bunch in EC, on the advice of this bunch did two IT, views through the roof, and because I'm trying to hit all categories so I did a novella, and an anal.

High scores with the novella, but low view count.

Keep 'em coming. Readers will come.

I didn't write an incest story to get votes. I wrote it because I like to mix up what kind of stories I write.

Same as you, I was just super surprised at the amount of traffic it's seen compared to my other stuff.

My first story was more on the taboo side of I/T. I was astounded how many views it accumulated.

Got me hooked. :D

I write a wide variety of types of stories, in different categories. But I feel no shame at all in saying one of the reasons I write incest stories -- apart from how much fun they are to write -- is that they draw more readers to my stories. Not just to the incest stories, but to all of my stories. I get far, far more views and votes, and therefore readers and favorites, than I would otherwise, because I write silly mom-son incest stories. I freely admit it and feel no guilt about it. When I wrote "Mom, You're a Hucow," I was laughing the whole time. It was great. A preposterous story, but lots of fun to write.

My incest stories often are somewhat silly, but they don't have to be. Some of the best authors at Literotica have written incest stories, some of which are just as well written and feature every bit as substantial character development as stories in other categories.

I hear ya, Simon.

I wrote mine really as a way to write something less serious and complicated than most of the other stuff I've done so far. I really just wanted to write a simple Spank Story.

And my premise is pretty ludicrous LOL.

But, more important than the sheer volume of views it's gotten is that it's actually gotten a really good reception. People seem to be enjoying it from the comments. So I guess I did something right.

And hey, if they wind up reading my other stuff because of it, all the better.

I'm putting the finishing touches on part 2 already, but I don't see this story lasting much longer than three chapters.

After that, I do have a different incest story in mind, although one more complicated and deeper than this purely whimsical fantasy tale.

It ought to be said, too, that you do not have to write incest stories at Literotica to be "successful," even if you define "successful" as meaning "lots and lots of readers." There are very successful authors here who have many followers and get high view numbers who do not write incest. Writing hot incest stories probably is the fastest and surest route to big numbers, but it's not the only route.

Now there's also another kind of success many here have achieved, but its like Bizarro world success and that's posting in Loving wives to see how low the score can go and how many creative nasty comments one can get.

I wrote an LW story for a Valentine's Day contest that was so over the top it was a parody and I wanted to see if they understood that they were being tweaked, or that they would take it seriously.

That story is currently a 2.74 and has provided some of my all time favorite insulting comments. Guess that's filed under winning by losing. :D

This sounds...brilliant LOL.

Part of me wishes I'd submitted my Karen story in LV instead of Humor. Because I'm sure they would have hated it.

I may try this one day lol

It also sounds like a story worthy of a 1 because it was written to promote and pursue a nasty game that can only redound in category troll response on others writing seriously offered stories to the category. It becomes a burden to fellow writers for some silly, juvenile gratification.

Unlikely. The trolls in LW areas are self-perpetuating. It doesn't matter how good or bad a story is if it doesn't fit their preconceptions of what an LW story should be (and those are mutually exclusive) they will leave abusive comments.

You don't think being poked revs them up? Really? REALLY?

You'd be right if it were any other category. In LW just about every story is trolled regardless of intent, so if they want to attack authors, then they're fair game, now aren't they?

And end of the day I'm the one who took the bombs, the lousy score, and the snark, so why should anyone else care? You only act like you care because its me. If it were one of your friends here you'd...oh, wait, right, the only friends you have here are your alts.

Note how I reply to you rather than make a separate post that's about a specific person, but you don't quote them so you can pretend you weren't attacking them and play martyr?

If anyone here would understand juvenile and childish it would be you.
