Adults marched off their lands, and sent to live in places and climates they never before in 30,000 years had occupied.

I understand the Colonialist mentality was, signing treaties, and then not honouring them. It was cheaper than the ongoing guerrilla actions that were occurring,and the most expedient way to get what ever resource or land that was wanted.

Contrary to folkslore, the Plains Indians did not kill only what they needed to subsist on. They drove entire herds of thousands of buffalo off of cliffs and only took the prime parts of the beast for food, letting the rest rot. Settlers nearly finshed off the job, but the Indians got a good jump on killing off the bison and lacked only the means to do so becuase of their primitive technology.
