Do you let your partner read?

This is probably a dumb question, but do you let your significant others read your stories?

I've always been too self-conscious to. He knows I write dirty stories and post them on here. Hell, he's the one who told me about Literotica! Lol Sometimes I mention things about them, like people hating the sad chapter in one of my stories or how ridiculous some of the comments were for my recent one. (I.e. Did these people even read what genre of story this is?! Haha) I wouldn't even tell him what genre the most recent one was in because it's very different from my other stuff.

Anyway, am I a total prude or are any of you self-conscious about sharing your stories with people close to you too?

Honestly, I met my significant other here; she was a fan of my work.

Prior to that, my now ex-wife knew but didn't care.

At this point my kids are adults and they know and are welcome to read my stuff here, whether or not they have I have no idea other than my son read my screwball fairy tales and told me ' yep, that's written by my dad.'

That about covers it for my spouse. I once sent her the link but received zero comments. If she looks at any of my stories, she makes absolutely zero comment. My stories generally stray far from my current life so there’s not much chance of confusion that way. I don’t push the issue.

Same with any friends to which I’ve mentioned this hobby. Crickets.

I read everything to my wife, its my last editing process, I catch things when I have to focus on every word, and I get some feedback from her.

If the story is good enough I may get more than feedback

If my partner reads my stories, he doesn't let me know. I believe he does read excerpts of it and maybe looks at the vote and view count and then comes pay me some kind of a compliment on having put a story out.

Then there are those times when I complain: "still no comments? boo." Some hours later I get a comment from an anonymous in the vein of "wow. mucho gusto. super sexy."

Meh. My partner knows what I write, knows I post here, knows my screen name and they're good with it all. But as far as I know, they've never read a single piece of erotica I've written.

They do, however, read all my fantasy work, so I guess erotica just isn't their bag. Which is fine.

It's not just about "let them read" it. The first question would be "Does your spouse/Significant other KNOW you write and publish erotic stories?"

Yes, my wife knows and has read a few of my stories. But, she says she doesn't like to read mine. She said it's not that they're not good. I write in first person of a guy describing a couple getting together, then into swinger scenes. And while reading she recognizes some things we did, and then reads others thinking "When did we do ever that?"

My husband is my #1 beta reader. He doesn't have a problem with anything I write, partially because I tell him all the hot guys in my stories are based on him, and he believes it, or at least pretends to.

Probably the opposite of prude. I can’t predict statistics, but I’m surprised at the results so far. Maybe more people are being quiet about it. I’ll say not a single soul in my real life knows, and I work hard at keeping it that way.

More power to ya, and to all who have a means of sharing. I’m not exactly envious, I have my reasons and they’re mine, mine, I tell you, mine, but I am happy for all who do have that ability to share.

My wife knows that I write and where I publish. She doesn't know my pen name, and has never shown an interest in reading. My kids know I write, but they don't know where I publish. I even tried to get them to illustrate or animate "The Third Ring," but the illustrator has gone different directions, and the project was too big for the animator.

My wife is aware. She says she doesn't mind but isn't personally interested, and we've been together long enough that I believe her. She's never asked to read my erotica, and I've never requested. (We're both writers, and often collaborate or mutually beta-read and edit in other fields.) If she reads content such as this, on Lit or elsewhere, by me (she known my screen name) or anyone else, she has never said so. She's definitely not a prude, but considers intimacy a private matter. IRL, I agree.

My partners are aware I write porn and post it here. The spouse knows one story is dedicated to him and did read it, with amusement. Others may have looked at my Valentine's story - I shared the link with friends when I placed in the contest - and one read my first story which was for him.

I sometimes mention a summary of a story to the spouse, whose usual reaction is "you're weird, you are."

My wife reads Literotica and watches porn. She just doesn't like MY stories, because she tries to think about where I gained such experience and scenes.

But, she does provide me with a get deal of thoughtful material! Many of my best quotes are hers (ie. "Oh, yea. I'd do him.")

Honestly, I think writing shared with someone you're involved with in some way can be all the more intense.

Especially, if you are writing about thoughts which involve that other partner in crime.

I'd definitely not be against sharing something with my partner even if the writing is just general. Yet, I would completely understand if she were not comfortable to share with me. Sharing is a rather personal thing.

My wife reads all of my stories. She is my last proof-reader. She is an attorney and a serious word-smith. A walking dictionary. I also bounce story points off her as I'm writing. She wouldn't read the two incest stories that I wrote as an exercise at the suggestion of this forum, but she reads and proofs everything else.

My other half helps me proofread, and is fine with what I write. Sometimes, even gives me suggestions. I enjoy this type of writing and I'm glad my partner in crime enjoys reading it, too.

Sometimes but she prefers porn over erotica so I think she only does it to humour me. She give excellent feedback though and I think my writing is better for it.
