Oregon Governor Kate Brown recently dropped all reading, writing and math proficiency standards for high school graduation, because she claimed it was unfair to “people of color” for them to have to pass tests in order to graduate {Go Deep}.

This is just straight up racism. Their policy is based on the notion that minority students are incapable of passing those proficiency tests. These people have a very low opinion of non-white people.

Implicit in their argument is the notion that white kids operate just fine with the tests. White kids can do the work and absorb the material and display proficiency. But, in their minds, the non white students are inferior and cannot. Therefore, in the name of helping the inferior students, they will get rid of testing altogether - removing the incentive for all of the kids to study or absorb the material.

It's racism, and if you can't see it, you probably went to school in Oregon.

I love history, I consume it whenever and where ever possible. But virtually all of that knowledge came post high school.

I've found that the most successful people are those with people skills. I know many people that never went to college, yet are millionaires; just because they are good socializers and other people like them. From owning car dealerships to selling real estate to starting successful businesses.

I think those people skills come from learning to act in a group from a young age. Playing on sports teams and the like.
