Help! I need a plumber.

No, not that kind of plumber.

The water coming out of my upstairs sink stinks. It doesn't stink from the shower or any other faucets but my bathroom sink upstairs.

I also watch too much real crime. Have you heard of the one where all the guests in a hotel started to have terrible smelling and tasting water? Come to find out there was a body in the water tower that fed the hotel.

My husband doesn't care but I can't help but wonder if I am brushing my teeth with decomposed body juice.

Are you certain it’s the smell of the water or is it the smell coming from the drain?
Drains can build up bacteria inside that put off a smell.
Put your nose close to the drain in the sink and see if that’s the source of the smell.
If so there are solutions sold at any home store to destroy the bacteria and algae growing in a drain.

i've got stinky drains, so i can identify. even pouring bleach down it seems to help, if that's the problem. take the advice above before calling a plumber.

when i was a wee child, oh so many years ago, our town had an open reservoir that our water came from. for a while, the water tasted and smelled really bad, bad enough to even make the newspaper. yep, someone had decided to commit suicide by weighting their body and jumping in. i still shudder when i think of drinking corpse water for a week. the covered the reservoir shortly after that, by the way. i wonder how many rodents and possums and raccoons fell in over the years and dissolved.

Its probably the drain.

You don't need a plumber. The supermarket probably sells some chemical which will clear out the u bend below the basin. Cost about $5.

Remember that Soap is fat, too much in the drain can get nasty.

If all else fails get a new husband.

dispose of the old one in a water container, then after a few weeks, taste the water from it. try putting caustic soda down the plug hole though in the meantime.

biggest problem, with all due respect, is putting sticks into the drain and not expecting it to block up. beavers use sticks to build dams, good dams, the clue is in 'sticks'

Late to the show, but; Sometimes just a liquid cleaner may not get all the crude out. This can be especially true if hair creates a clog in the 'U-Trap'. The u-trap can be removed and physically cleaned out — or replaced. So, if the drain cleaner fails to solve the problem you or your husband can try this. (warning; this can be a yucky job )

The sticks beaver use don't dissolve or contain chemical treatments...

A beaver who chews on one of these sticks will die a quick, painful death.
