so far as i can tell, most people decide someone's sexuality by what they do with their genitals, roughly put. if you fuck a guy or get fucked by a guy, you're gay. if you are a guy who only fucks women, you're straight and so is she. and who knows what lesbians are getting busy with.

so, does that mean that if someone is celibate they no longer can be considered of any special sexuality? if you're not having sex, does that mean you no longer have a sexual identity?

Technically, yes. If he is naturally more inclined to desire sex with males than with females, then he is gay. It's a matter of how his brain and his sex hormones are wired. If he prefers sex partners who are the same gender as he, all the heterosexual behavior in the world won't change the fact that he prefers sex with the same gender- which makes him gay. Unless he desires sex with both genders equally, in which case he would be considered bisexual.

so let me get this straight (tee hee). if a guy is in a successful straight marriage and in middle age becomes bi curious, then suddenly he's gay, even if he doesn't act on it. or was he gay all along and just didn't know it? because from what i've read, sexual preference is hardwired. if the middle aged guy has been gay all along then the percentage of gays in the population just shot up. and if you are celibate out of a disinterest in sex, regardless of your preference, you're still your original preference? compare to loss of faith...if someone loses their faith, are they still a catholic or protestant even though they no longer practice their faith?

there is no fluidity in sexuality? if a straight guy goes to prison and sucks every cock in the joint, then comes out of prison and resumes his hetero life, what is he? straight/gay/straight? if a gay guy fantasizes about a woman does that make him actually straight?

There may be latent bisexual tendencies in some people, but I believe that the core of it is, what is their main attraction, what deeply turns them on, gets them aroused at a primal level? If it's same sex copulation, then they are gay. If a man sucks cocks all day long but derive no pleasure from it, (and in prison it may be a survival thing) but if he becomes super aroused by the thought of having sex with a woman all along, no matter how much gay sex he has, then he is heterosexual at the core.
