Supply Chain issues- What should the president do?

So, we all know this country has some problems- consumer goods are becoming scarcer and scarcer, more and more store shelves are becoming empty, consumer choices are dwindling, and we hear the same refrain over and over, "it's Covid, it's the supply chain, etc." And, overall, the big one, "This is all Biden's Fault."

So my question is, and I'm looking for honest intelligent answers beyond just "Biden Sucks," or "Blah blah blah, Socialism"- is what do you think the president should be doing, or could be doing, to alleviate these shortages? What are some policies that he should implement that could help, and what (if anything) has he done that might have initially caused these supply issues?

Would (for example) lowering tariffs against China help? Would instituting price freezes on oil, or opening up more oil production (I know Democrats typically are not in favor of this, but...) Or would aggressive intervention in the shipping and transport economy- mandating increased wages for truckers, using federal workers to help alleviate the bottleneck, forcing domestic factories to increase production, and so on- these are not free-market solutions and Republicans typically are not in favor of these, but... What are YOUR ideas? I'm trying to get some intelligent ideas here beyond the usual anti-Biden extremist news bites.

Nothing at all.

This.

I heard one the other day. Trump is actually running the country behind the scenes. Everything Biden does is fake. Not real. So....then if this is true....isn't the supply issues Trump's fault?

I think people buying less non essential items would probably be the easiest way to unclog some avenues. The virus has completely interrupted production, and so the backlog we had is gone. We're basically at an on demand level of supply. And most manufacturing companies are sti being slammed by the virus in the countries we make our cheap shit.

Secondly, getting past the pandemic. If these countries stop having to dodge losing workers, they could ramp up reserve better

But the last is something that the pandemic started, but has been brewing for a while....reanalyzing our economy. Many employees realized their job wasnt providing what they need. And usually others backfilled.....I think the pandemic pushed us to the level of breaking that model.

And no...it's not as simple as "well, if the govt will pay me more...why would I work?". That treats the American worker as lazy and stupid (we arent)

Correct...like "quantitative easing" a call to slow down purchases of "non-essential" goods. It's an honor system ask....not a mandate.

Start with holiday our our purchases...ask folks to buy less gifts this fall. That would be a start.

The Fed could decrease the supply of money to counter inflation. They know best how to achieve this.

He should.be talking to industry leaders in all these sectors and asking them what they need?

Strange you mention that....he is meeting with them -https://www.freightwaves.com/news/biden-to-meet-with-ports-labor-on-supply-chain-bottlenecks

Biden to meet with ports, labor on supply chain bottlenecks
Administration also holding roundtable with big-box retailers to address ongoing congestion

I think more government interventionism to fix all the other not well though out government interventionism that fucked everything up in the first place, would just cause more problems. If the government were to do anything it should get the fuck out of the dock workers/shipping companies/truckers way for once.... seriously give the bootheel on their throats a fuckin' rest for a change. Might help....but it also might be too little too late as middle fingers are already up in the air. Cleetus ain't drivin' no damn truck today..... fuck you.

Best to issue some more "fuck you" mandates and turn up the calls for putting unvaccinated folks in concentration camps and wonder why the almost ENTIRELY right wing population of heavy equipment operators and truckers in the country....you know the people that are just the WORST and (D)eez in big cities work extra hard to demonize and harass as vile racist Nazi scum who support fascist things like free speech and private property, at every given opportunity?

..... are giving the big city blue Karen types the finger :D

Yea, better regulate them some more to make their lives just about impossible with the maximum amount of red tape you can pile on without getting the SCOTUS involved. Start shooting the ones who aren't Vaccinated.... just summarily executer them for murdering trillions of Americans with covid. That will make it all better!!

I can't imagine why they wouldn't want to deliver all the good stuff to the people who fucking hate their guts and want them exterminated. :D

Truckers don't have to get vaxxed...even when the rules take effect.

That is great...I'm not up on exactly what Biden is doing at the moment. I'm glad he is...

Biden (and Harris) is actually on the job and doing the work in the classical style, without needing to be in front of a camera or on Twitter every day to do it...but after four years of a bullshit orange-dyed celeb phoning it in just to yap at Führer-style rallies in front of a throng once or twice a week all the time, it can be quite jarring to see the regular process in praxis again.

I think, based on the last four years, the way to hold a presser on a crisis, is to have pressers every day to focus on the crisis, and then use the entire time to rail on the press and political opposition.

I do agree with this, as much as I hate how the last four years have warped sensibilities that could have grown alongside things instead of devolved and destroyed.

Times change and so does visual accessibility of leaders in the social sphere through tech. I think if you wish to be President, you need to be not only aware of this fact of modern society, but need to be both keen and able enough of it to use it to its fullest potential in promoting the office. This is something that Obama captured to better effect, Cheeto had to its detriment and Biden doesn't have much interest or savvy in.

Perhaps we should bring our manufacturing jobs back to the USA. When Americans build products in America for Americans then the supply chain is shortened. When you measure the supply chain in hundred of miles instead of thousands of miles then shelves get stocked quicker. When you don’t ship across oceans then dock workers and container storage become less of a problem. The government can not require business to bring those jobs back but they can encourage it through taxes. Tax offshore production and offer tax cuts for domestic production. It’s also my understanding that there is an issue with trucking and California. Seems like I’ve heard California has banned wildcat trucking. I don’t know how accurate that is but if independent truckers are not allowed to do business in California then there is another huge bottleneck.

Another word for supply chain is logistics. The United Stares Army has been described as a master of logistics. I suspect there is a wealth of knowledge and experience there that could be tapped into.

Want to make America great again? Bring our manufacturing jobs back home. Not everybody is cut out for high tech. Some people are good with their brains and others good with their hands. Neither group is more deserving or less worthwhile than the other. America was built on our industry and then we turned our back on it. Much like a football team that dominates for the first 3 quarters and then quits doing what it’s best at to preserve a lead only to lose because they lost their way.

If you're willing to pay more, then your fix, as oversimplified as it might be, might work.

Globalism happened for a reason. Cheap labor

Exactly. When you can buy a component manufactured elsewhere that is both better quality and cheaper than anything made here....what more needs to be said? It isn't like we can't build anything and be the best at it. It is simply those in charge want to do it cheaply to maximize their profits. They don't give a fuck about how they treat their labor or the quality of the product they produce. Make money now. If they go broke in 5 years...so what...all about money now

Doesn't mean they aren't pissed about the effects, especially at local levels.

Can't go in and get fuel, food or services without a vax? Why would they deliver to anywhere like that? LOL

Your shortsightedness explains your choice in politics.

Feel free to provide truck stops that require vax.

You're bullshit explains your perspective

Seriously...what kind of life do you believe a trucker has that would have anything to do with your claim?....lol

You are going to die from old age first. They don't exist.

I’m not sure about quality. I own an auto repair garage. 20 years ago our parts were almost all American made and we almost never got a defective part. Today it’s mostly made in China and defects have become a daily part of my life. Diagnose a car, repair it, deliver to customer only to have it come back in 3 days with same problem and same part bad. Replace defective part a second time but this time for free. No problem for parts suppliers, they have very little time invested . I have hours I end up eating.

So buy only American

Besides while they SHOULD be enforced very few places, especially that a trucker would be, will be enforcing any sort of mandate. Can you imagine the amount of labor that would be involved in checking every single person who walks into your Circle K? Those places have one person who is supposed to somehow keep shelves stocked and work the registers.

I swear we are two years into something that should have been pretty much in hand in about six months but Americans are so big on FreeDumb that we'd rather suffer and die than be a little inconvenienced.
