The vaccines certainly do have their shortcomings. From what I understand, their protection is centered specifically around the spike proteins. This was going to be the feature that they hoped our immune systems would learn to identify and target for future infections. Natural immunity comes from exposure to the actual virus, and our immune system learns to target more features of it. This makes natural immunity superior to the vaccines, as natural immunity covers a wider range of features of the virus - mutations are likely to still have enough features of the original to still be detected by an immune system familiar with the parent virus.

Also, the vaccines seem to have a very short protection window. Depending on the manufacturer, I have heard that the level of protection drops over time. This is why people have been talking about booster shots.

Lastly, the protection afforded by the vaccines does not prevent infection (although I was corrected in my previous assumptions that the vaccine had no effect on the duration of the period a vaccinated person can spread the virus). Vaccines may indeed make a person less contagious, but they do not prevent the contraction or the spread of the virus. They may reduce the severity of the symptoms, but they do not prevent illness.

I'll be curious to see what the science says once all of this is less political and we can rationally look at it without all the interference and spin.

If you catch Covid, yes, you can build up immunity - at the risk of death or long term disanbility. Is that a price worth paying?

The vaccines, if you catch Covid, significantly reduce the severity of the illness and minimise your risk of dying. You might not even need hospitalisation if you were vaccinated. After that? Yes, assuming you are still alive, and if you were vaccinated, you should be, you will have natural immunity as well.

Herd immunity will be impossible in the US because so many people have refused, for whatever reason, to be vaccinated.

Herd immunity in the UK might be possible because so many people have volunteered to be vaccinated twice, and now for the elderly and vulnerable like me, three times.

Not being vaccinated increases your likelihood of death or serious health issues for years to come. It is your choice but in the US fake news is fuelling refusals to vaccinate, putting many US people at risk.

In FACT, “vaccinated” people who get covid, carry a higher viral load than un-“vaccinated” people and shed more virus. The “vaccinated” people are the ones who need to be quarantined!

I had covid, my immunity is MUCH better than “vaccinated” people’s! My MD is recommending I NOT get “vaccinated” since I tested positive for covid. No need!
