to those hundreds of americans that mean ole joe supposedly left behind in afghanistan to be kidnapped, tortured, raped, murdered and spoken harshly to by the taliban?

deplorable panties were in a bunch for about a week or so, then suddenly nothing.

State Dept. tells Congress 368 Americans left in Afghanistan, 178 want out

Administration officials previously stated that roughly 100 Americans who wanted to be evacuated remained in the area.

despite the latest outcry, both these statements can be true. Not all americans wanted to leave, and still not all want to leave. More have been in contact having decided they want to leave as things worsen or other circumstances change, and more communication–more coordinated information–allows a better compilation of actual numbers.

the number of afghanis wanting out who worked to help americans far outstrip those numbers, but the difficulties of them getting paperwork and freedom to move to an evacuation spot are horrendous.

as for deplorables... well, 'nuff said.

House Foreign Affairs Ranking Member Mike McCaul (R-Texas) said he was informed that that the State Department is now working with US special operations veterans groups –Task Force Pineapple and Task Force Dunkirk — which to get Americans and their allies that want to leave out.

He said their logistical knowledge has helped the government locate additional U.S. citizens and SIVS that remain.

McCaul, who was highly critical of the Biden administration’s handling of the withdrawal of troops in the region, said he is encouraged by the State Department’s decision to hire former Ambassador Elizabeth “Beth” Jones to help take charge of evacuation efforts.

“They’ve hired the well-respected ambassador to integrate the further evacuation of all American citizens and Special Immigrant Visa holders,” he told The Post. “They are also very focused on SIV applicants.”

Right, I saw this reported on TV within the last week, so this issue isn't forgotten.

It's also a "you can't have it both ways" issue. Either Americans have freedom of choice or they don't. Nearly all of the Americans who were in Afghanistan at the end were/are there because they had family connections--they were/are married to an Afghani or were/are the child of an American and Afghani. They had/have tough decisions to make on whether to leave and who to try to leave. The American government could not/cannot make this choice for them.

What the American government did was to tell them in April they needed to leave if they wanted to. After that, it was all connected with their freedom of choice and their exercise of that. The American government also made available to them an avenue to leave--that that avenue closed down increasingly toward August was a natural circumstance that the U.S. government is not responsible for. You can't have it both ways--both support freedom of individual choice and hold the government responsible for the choice that's being made by the individual.
