I don't think he had a clue as to what he was doing. But he sure has everyone scrambling.

Who the hell is running this joint anyway?

The US position towards Taiwan hasn't changed.

Yeah, he actually understands who our allies are.

"bellisarius" anagram = "Russia libel"

Is the reds' resident propaganda master at it again? :D

We defended them against China the last time China tried to attack them. We gave them our new Sidewinder missiles to upgrade their old F-86s, in which they went on to down Red Chinese Migs with massive kill ratios in favor of the Republic of China.

Wellllll, what we did was provide them the means to defend themselves. Big difference.

Here's the problem. As per the terms of the 'one China' agreement the US took the official position of not committing one way or the other to the defense of Taiwan. We had no official policy regarding any direct involvement. On the other hand we didn't commit to not getting involved either. Our options were wide open.

The Pentagon and State Dept. are trying to roll Biden's commitment back to the original position but that is going to be damn near impossible now. This is most definitely going to change regional dynamics. The question is in what way?

Biden did not make any changes. They don't have to roll anything back.

The PRC has been threatening Taiwan since 1949. Is there really anything new going on now?

Biden's comment could just as easily be construed as supporting the status quo as it could as marking a change. And of course the Chinese government welcomes the opportunity to play to the cameras on this, but that's China's problem. I'm sure they miss having a nemesis who probably couldn't even find Taiwan on a map.

Which they've been doing for quite some time now. Get out of the basement.

There's talking tough, and then there's actually gearing up to attack. China has been doing the former for decades, but that's all they've been doing. They know the bragging rights they'd get from conquering Taiwan would not be worth the price they'd pay on the world stage.

How do YOU know what they know? How do YOU know what they think?

You don't know shit. You never knew shit. Yet you come in here spouting off about everything you don't know. It's idiots like you that opined that Hitler was "just talking big." And the list can go on. When are you moron's going to learn that those people actually mean what they say?

It's called reading the news. And no Trump supporter has any business criticizing Biden on foreign policy. (Or anything else, but ESPECIALLY not on foreign policy.)

It's more likely to make the Chinese act while appealing to the UN
for sanctions against the US for interfering in their domestic
squabbles which they see as caused by the US.

And they have that demographic pressure still.
Lots of women on Taiwan.
Widows in waiting...

Yes. They didn't have military capacity in 1949, but they've been building.
Worse yet, because they "employ" slave labor, we have been buying their
cheap goods since 1949 which means we have funded their military buildup.

Just recently, despite years of theft of our technology, they took the Biden
administration by surprise by actually passing us in missile technology.

So, yeah, you have to understand, there is something new here and once
the Biden Administration surrendered to the Taliban, it send Beijing a
clear and unmistakable message, the US will no longer come to the aid
of any "ally" in any robust way other than official words and resolutions,
toothless resolutions, in the UN...

Woke needs to wake. Dreams are not reality.

The defense of Taiwan is only necessary if the PRC threatens war.

Do you even read the news?
They are verbally threatening war
and using their military to encroach and intimidate
just daring Taiwan to defend their air space and territorial limits.

The best part of the right's overreaction is that if he hadn't said anything, they'd accuse him if being soft "china Joe"

And we'd have a bunch of Trumpy chatter about how he needs to do more.
