Alternate words for “slut”

Minx is one I've used in the past, created a fictional porn star Molly Minx because Stan Lee instilled in me a love for alliteration

Don't think anyone's mentioned 'wanton', usually wanton hussy...

Or 'the town bike' - everyone's ridden her.

I use slut a lot, with slapper and tart when appropriate.

I can dredge up 'Knob-goblin' from the abyss of my memory, but I can't recall the context.

Really? No one has mentioned bitch yet?

Admittedly you would probably now confuse it with a bastardly/bratty woman. It still used to be used for women who slept around. For money or not.

EDIT: And then there is the more colloquial version of hooker: hoe.

Like a lot of us, I’m laughing. But I’m still on a quest (and making one up still may be the answer) for a word that’s flattering.

Think about it. Stud. Casanova. Don Juan. Lothario. Playboy. Those all have an air of flattery. I went thesaurus diving, one listed lothario as “a successful womanizer”.

A rung down on the flattering scale, womanizer, but even there there’s a congratulary element. He (she too, technically) has something about them where they’re skilled at it, even if they’re also being sleazy.

So far, vixen (personally) seems like the one with the fewest negative implications, but it also at times means she’s desirable and/or a tease, not necessarily loose or easy.

Another good one in a way (non-human though) is succubus is the closest one of all. She’s in charge, doing it on her terms, for fun. All we need is to make her human. Pinnochio her, make her real.

It might be time to switch gears into making up the best word. Wufties/wufts doesn’t seem like it’s got staying power. Ohh. Staying power. Another for the male flattering terms.

Has anyone mentioned the word nympho?

A nymphomaniac is a woman who has excessive sexual desires, and that's not a negative.

It suggests a mental illness. Therefore i wouldn't call it a positive and which is why some people, who claim such thing exists, call it sex addiction. And that too is viewed as something to be battled with.

I'm very confused as to whether "positive" terms are even being asked here though.

I think the issue seems to be that we are looking for a female version of the word "stud", it appears. No matter how sex positive women get to be, I don't think there is a culture among women that applauds women that sleep around. And frankly I don't think such a culture will exist. Even men speak of sex goddesses and what not, but when it actually comes down to body count, men seem rather unwilling to know.

Being linked to mental illness doesn't automatically make it a negative. Whether people consider themselves a sex addict or nympho, it exists and it's a descriptive word that is easily identified. (I took way more offense to being called a whore or slut than a nympho, but I'm sure there are others that feel just the opposite.)

Even so, I'm sure you'd rather be called a woman that just enjoys sex.

I personally don't think it's a mental illness or disorder or addiction. Just a healthy thing.

It's not just enjoying sex, though. It's a compulsive drive to have sex, often at really inconvenient times and with people you probably shouldn't fuck.

It's healthy until it takes over your life and becomes an obsessive need rather than something enjoyable that you seek out on or own.

There is the possibility of it being OCD. But as far as I know sex addiction per say is not recognized as a mental illness or disorder. Naturally, whoever needs help should seek help. I don't hand out diagnoses. Those are given by health care professionals. If they have started diagnosing people with sex addiction, colour me intrigued.

IMO one of the salutary ways in which society has progressed over the last few decades is taking a more empirical/scientific and less traditionalist/moralistic approach to the concept of what is a "disorder." A woman who wants to have lots of sex and has lots of sex doesn't have a disorder, unless the degree of her desire or the frequency with which she partakes of it impairs the functioning of her life in some way --hurting her job, her family commitments, her happiness, etc. That's part of what I like about the word "slut." It's a slap in the face to the old way of thinking. There's no other word I can think of that does this job quite so well.

The two main references for psychiatric diagnosis are the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), and World Health Organisation's International Classification of Diseases.

Per Wiki: earlier editions of DSM did make reference to "sexual addiction", but it hasn't been in there for quite some time. ICD does include "excessive sexual drive" aka "nymphomania" as a diagnosis, but handles it as a compulsive behaviour rather than an addiction.

I tend to see "slut" as having not just negative connotations, but connotations of submissiveness and living to please men (neither of which I find attractive). I've never thought negatively of a woman with whom I've had sex, no matter how many partners she's had. (I've thought negatively of some women with whom I didn't have sex, And honestly I always found prudishness a much bigger turnoff than "sluttiness"). In a few cases, I've found it intriguing when a woman has had many sexual partners or just a really active sex life (though I've never asked for details).

By "living to please men," I don't mean "I like to please my partner, and take pride in doing that, and hope he feels the same way." I mean "I have no value except in my ability to please men. If I don't have a man in my life, I'll just die!"

So, yeah, no easy positive equivalent to "slut," If a woman enjoys sex and has a positive self-image about it, I'd rather just describe her as that.

Connotations of this kind are intriguing. I have nearly the opposite associations with the word based on what I see as some widespread current usage, and certainly my own occasional use of it in writing. That is, someone in pursuit of their own sexual satisfaction to an extreme degree and without regard to the mores, opinions or restrictions that other people want them to adhere to.

Like a lot of us, I’m laughing. But I’m still on a quest (and making one up still may be the answer) for a word that’s flattering.

How about “hotty”? Or maybe that should be “hottie”. To my ear it implies a sex-positive attitude as much or more than attractiveness.

Vamp is an interesting term applied to women. It indicates a vampire, but not a bloodsucking one, rather a money sucker. She drains the poor guy of every dime she can. Not a whore he is pay for, a lover who latched on to him because of his wealth, and rides the poor bastard for all he is worth. Man-eater, is another word used for the same creature. As is Femme Fatale in many stories, though she can be the death of the man as well. :)

There’s a thread currently in fetish and sexuality, “when did you become a slut”, https://forum.literotica.com/showthread.php?t=1554209

I started asking this in that thread (not for a story, just trying to come up with one), then decided to go more cerebral and ask here.

So, just as “geek” changed meanings (generally speaking) from an insult to a point of pride whereas “nerd” did not, is there an alternate word for “slut.” Hmm. “Uninhibited” is accurate but too long. “Eager beaver” is two words. “In touch with (one’s) sexuality”, again too many words. “Sensual” is too ‘massage with hot stones’ and such (which is fine), but we’re talking about fucking. I always shake my head chuckle at “Sperm receptacle” because it’s just so outrageously awful, but clearly that’s even more insulting than slut.

It’s a tough one, fraught with peril too, since it’s so skewed into negative sexism. So with focus on finding a good word, any thoughts?

I came up with sexpot, tart, and wench, since they seem (US) to generally be said with a humorous tone. None of them seem just right though, for US answers. (And by no means is this intended just for US English either. )

Ideas?

Whether or not slut is an insult depends on how its used, I suppose. Or the person being called a slut. I can see why someone might want to avoid it though.

I like some of the old fashioned words for a girl who gets around. Sporting gal was a good one.

Women with excessive sex drive don't have a mental disorder. It's a hormone issue. With estrogen and testosterone treatments, a woman can have the sex drive of a teenage boy, wanting it 7 day a week.

I do like nymphomaniac, hottie, and vamp too. plus nymph and imp too.

To recap, I have a newfound respect for “slut” from some of the comments, but I’m still wondering if there’s a word without the negative connotations.

Who knows how to make a poll? We really may need to make our own up.

  • “Emp” not “imp”, short for empowered?
  • What/where did pink orchid come from? Pinky? Porky? Naah.
  • Edsel. - empowered damsels? Since the Edsel has that other alleged special connection. Again, naah. :)

While people with hormone issues can have an increasing or decreased sex drive it's not always the case that excessive sex drive is because of a hormonal disorder. It can be an effect of trauma and it can be a symptom of other mental disorders

It can be acting out as part of PTSD from sexual abuse, that's full on mental.
