I say Nay.

When you voluntarily take on a loan, you agree to pay it off. You don't feel like paying after you commit to a contract? Tuff Noogies.

I can't shirk paying on the two current loans I have.

Now, for those who were defrauded by pay for play scam schools like 'Rump U .... well, that's a different story.

I'm nay on this one as well. You borrowed the money, you owe the money, you pay it back.

Sure, forgive the loans -- as a first step; a way to show political commitment to a future of entirely publicly-funded higher education. No tuition for high school, no tuition for college.

i believe all of the countries that have higher stem averages than the u s have free college education. why wouldn't the u s invest in its own future? the cost of education is as scandalous as the cost of healthcare. let's wipe the books and start all over.

Not in Canada, after High School you pay to go, but our Government works hard to keep it relatively affordable for everyone to go on to post secondary education...( and we do with over 68% of Canadians holding post secondary degrees).

The STEM majors should have to pay back their loans in full. The gender studies majors should have their loans forgiven.

Those ideas are fine ... for future. Change the laws and make it effective for future classes. But for those who have already signed contracts, no. Now if Uncle Sam (or a state/local government) hires a Grad and wants to make it an employment bonus, that's OK too. 20-25% per year of employment or something.

But not just a blanket wipeout.

Want to give the blue haired SJW losers another hand out??

Enabling their loserdom is how that class of failure came about in the first place.

That's the last thing they need.

What they need to have their welfare cut off and get evicted from their parents house.

Will free college make those recipients work harder or appreciate the education more than if they earn it and pay for it? I might support free college for engineering, medical, sciences etc. under no circumstances will I support free college for art appreciation, gender studies, life sciences etc. And you have to actually graduate and then work in that field for say a minimum of 10 years. No free college for professional students.

Just more wealth redistribution antics by the left. NAY!! I paid my college bills and expect everyone else to pay theirs.

Agreed!!

A college is the devil now?

Not a college.... signing up for the federally backed loans you can't get out of under any circumstances short of death or the total collapse of the USG, it's enforceable authority and thus it's fiat currency.

Wanting or unable to pay it back? DOESN'T MATTER.... should have read the fine print and thought about that before you signed up for six figures of debt for a degree that is at best worth 50k/yr. but most likely just above minimum wage.

Stupid should hurt. :)

If our government got out of the loan business tuitions wouldn't be so high.

I would back that if and only IF the "free" colleges, hold high academic standards.

No racial equity or affirmative action bullshit. Best performing students get first shot.

Not to mention all the public and private scholarships available to vets.

You do 36mo of honorable service you can get all the free or mostly free school you want in most places in the USA.

But we're talking about people who don't even want to pay their party bills, they're probably not ready to commit years of their life to doing what the fuck they are told when they are told to do it, no matter how much they hate it.

Nay!

I paid back just over $150,000 in student loans.

Enormous.
Unfortunately, it gets passed on to the Public.

No lawyer can survive & pay back their loans without charging their customers an arm and leg.
It's why so much inequality in the justice system in America. The rich can afford to pay good lawyers, the poor get cheaper, fresh graduates with no experience.

Colleges and Universities SHOULDN'T be for profit.
Pay their academics well, but get rid of corporate share-holders.

He's still bitter about higher education failing him. Three degrees, all paid for by Uncle Sam, and all he has to show for it is his 2002 Toyota truck and a failed pot farm.

Rob still living in a fantasy world.

Built and sold a few farms, none of which had anything to do with pot and now I own my own rather successful horticulture lab and pursue higher studies in the subject, because that's just my thing. Shit's all paid for and my biggest problem is getting rid of my US dollars for something that's not being totally devalued as fast as (D)eez can devalue it, as fast as I can before it gets (D)evalued.

Literally living the dream and watching you get histrionic about it.

Why would I be bitter about that??:D
