i'm jonesing for a doughnut so bad right now that i'm about to gnaw my own leg off. not just any doughnut, i'm craving an entenmann's chocolate covered. i think in the doughnut world those fuckers must be the equivalent of crack.
there are a lot of doughnuts out there and they are not created equal. krispy kreme? that shit is just bad. always leaves a coating of grease on my palate and give me indigestion. they're the white trash of the doughnut world.
Dunkin'? good doughnuts, great coffee, too expensive.

we used to have a bunch of little german bakeries all over town, most of them have closed. when i was little there was one a few blocks away, we used to go and knock on the back door early in the morning and the baker would sell us doughnuts that were still hot. i've never had another as good as those.

i think i'm going to be forced to put some pants on and go get some entenmann's. discussing has made my craving worse.

what is your preferred doughnut?

I'm spoiled. There are probably a dozen donut shops within a 3-mile radius of where I live.

Glazed twists or blueberry cake.

Also, this is a must in any thread mentioning Dunkin': https://youtu.be/FSvNhxKJJyU

French crullers - with dark chocolate glaze.

Or an apple fritter. The quick dough type with apple chunks in them.

And the classic - plain old cake. No glaze or anything else.

They're weird, everybody loves one type and hates another.

I'm not fond of plain with one exception .... fresh and still warm at a cider mill. There are none better in any bakery, store or specialty shop.

For store stuff, my choice is DD's Apple and Spice, but I'm no longer willing to patronize DD.

Fritters and Bear Claws are good, but I consider them pastries or something else, other than donuts.

i did it and i ate 3 of the fuckers. now i have a doughnut hangover.

not really met a doughnut over here i'm that fond of but haven't tasted some of those mentioned. those i've had tend to be heavy on the grease and sugar and leave that residual feeling in the mouth like i need to scrape it off my tongue.

my own favourite is a fresh, still warm, fluffy inside, lacking-a-hole, fine sugar-dusted, raspberry jam-filled, golden oblate ball of goodness from a bakery back in the day.

Homemade are the best. Nice and warm with powered sugar.
I haven’t had a donut in years. Those goodies will kill ya.

Enjoyed blue star and randy's and primos's last month when I was in SoCal.
But seriously Primo's ...oh fuck...deserves the finest coffee too.
Devolved to streams of consciousness....flashback is rather intense.

My aunt's doughnuts. Fucking awesome.

My friend's sourdough doughnuts that I haven't had for over 40 years, damn fine eating.

They have different names in Germany

Kreppel in Hesse
Krapfen in Bavaria
Pfannkuchen in Berlin
Berliner in the western Rhein Ruhr area

No holes, filled with various flavours of jam, some glazed or with chocolate icing, but mainly sugar coated.

I love them but have to avoid them like the plague 🤪

.
We had a Grebes bakery in my hometown, and I can't say I had a particular favorite. Every single one of their donuts rocked; even the jelly filled, which can often be nasty.

Man, I love the apple cider donuts this time of year.

Judicke's Bakery in Bayonne NJ is one of those old school bakeries that makes amazing old school donuts.
