How can I request a personal sweep?

That is discouraging, isn’t it? People with souls so small they feel compelled to drag others down with them are very sad people.

I’m not sure you can request a personal sweep, but I understand sweeps are routinely performed during or at the end of contests. The Halloween contest is running now so you’ll get a sweep soon

At the end of your story there is a little Icon to report the story. Click on that and for reason type in that you feel the story has been the victim of trolling and you'd like a sweep on it, as well as the rest of your stories if any others were affected.

I know in the past this does work, but it could take a little time as I can't imagine how many reported stories they have to go through on a daily basis.

You could also try a private message to Laurel with your request and a link to your story/stories

I have trolls that are 1 bombing me and I would like to request a personal sweep.

It's absolutely heartbreaking to see my 4,78 go to a 4,46 and 4,69 to a 4,43.

Who do I message?

If you suspect voting fraud, then use the "report" link at the bottom of the page to report your story to Laurel. In the report form, describe what's going on, and request a sweep.

The sweep you get that way may not be personal. It's an automated process.

I may look into this. For about the last three weeks all of my stories have been one-bombed. My first story, which has had an 'H' tag since it was posted finally lost it yesterday. No new comments, just constant down votes. The ratings have fluctuated over time which I expect but nothing like these past couple of weeks.

Until you have a substantial number of votes 4's drop you significantly lower than you think. with ten votes I had a 4.9 which is 9 5's and one ten, three votes later with two of them being 4's it was 4.5. It dropped out of hot has come back up and 21 votes (after climbing 4.6) is now resting at 4.5 about to fall out of the H territory again. I don't think there has been a vote lower than 4.

I can't worry about the scores, it would drive me insane to watch them that close.

Several of our recent stories/chapters had a drop in total number of votes and a rise in scores an hour or two ago, so I assume that some kind of sweep has been done today.

Yeah, I claim that it doesn't bother me, but then it does anyway! By the way, don't sweeps remove "fives" sometimes?

Don't know that I have ever gone though a sweep. But my guess is if it meets the same criteria to remove a one and five would also fall.

And for the record, I never claimed falling scores don't bother me. I said I don't check them often so that I don't worry myself over things not in my control.

I lost a few votes during the day. No big deal. Maybe that was the sweep for the September monthly contest.

I lost one vote on a story. Was enough to put that on H... Please no one go put it down. I need it.

The sweeps go through the entire story database, regardless whether you've asked for one, regardless whether your story is in a contest or not. I see occasional movements even in my oldest stories, but I don't track the detail, just the overall trend.

I now appreciating the 1-bombers insights. Yes, they do detract from my potential audience and possibly more appreciative readers.

But, I realized they helped me critically focus on which chapters of my on-going story might have offending passages causing their negative reactions.

My "lifestyle ..." series is about a loving geek/beauty couple who enter a swinging lifestyle after the kids are gone. But, chapter three is a rather a tense chapter where I deliberately wanted to portray her as a controlling, highly sexed, calculating woman, who gives him what she knows he wants. That chapter might receive the lowest rating. But I've realized that should be expected in the longer series I'm writing.

Of course, my writing is not on a 4.5+ level. But at the 4~ level, the lower rating of that chapter is in line with what it should be.

Yes, sometimes. If the system deems them to be fraudulent.

The phrase "the system deems" reminds me of Skynet or The Matrix. Of course, it's just an algorithm. But some day - I hope I never see it - AI will be moderating erotic literature sites.

I haven't been following my story for the Halloween Contest closely. I check it once a day or so. Yesterday morning or the night before the rating was 4.6 this morning it is 4.45 and I just had to wonder why?

I don't care about the contest, I just don't understand the valley and peaks on this story. When it first hit 10 votes it had 4.9, and it has been up and down (drastically) since then. I know things are volatile until there are 25 to 30 votes, but still be bouncing from well above a 4.5 to below at this stage feels odd.

Yes I have stories that hover around 4.5, dropping a couple and picking up a couple. :(

How many votes has it got? Sounds to me that the vote count must still be quite low, if the score is still moving around a lot. Or folk are giving it all scores - 3s and 4s in sufficient quantities bring the maths down too. It's not just one-bombs that do it.

22 votes this morning. I haven't had the guts to check it again. Yes the count is low on total votes, and I think only one vote was cast before this drop.

EDIT: Yes, 22 votes so far. No new ones since the one that plunged it today. And I think only one from the last time I looked at it Sunday.

You're fretting about the maths, needlessly. The vote count is too low to mean anything - come back in thirty days when everything has settled.

This is why I don't look at the votes but a few times a week. It isn't a big deal what the vote is, other than it tells you what people think of the story. I just felt, feel, like this one is one of my best. Okay, not much sex, but it is erotic. I hoped people would like it. To soon to worry, and I know it, but doesn't mean I'm not sulking (fretting), be cause, obviously I am.

It struck me that people are used to voting on Yelp, Amazon, and so forth (for the latter it can be for books or movies). Perhaps to them erotic literature is just another commodity to consume like, I don't know, micro-wave ovens. The sheer number of stories on these sites, and the rate at which new ones appear, paradoxically encourages this state of mind.

Also, they may unconsciously associate us with big name authors and filmmakers who are interested in the sheer number of consumers but who are probably indifferent to the individual opinions of those people.

In other words, we as the authors don't think of our stories as "products" but many of the readers probably do.
