Updated stylebook guidance for The Washington Post told writers to say “pregnant women and other pregnant individuals” rather than just “pregnant women” in an effort “to be more inclusive.”

The paper’s Instagram team leader, Travis Lyles, posted a screenshot of the new guidance Friday afternoon on Twitter.

“While biology dictates who can become pregnant, it does not always reflect gender identity,” the guidance said. “If we say pregnant women, we exclude those who are transgender and nonbinary.”

Women who wanted an education weren't "real" women. So you see, this argument that I must define "womanhood" or face erasure holds no water at all. My personhood is paramount.

Moving back to Washington Post using inclusive language around pregnancy, I think it's a positive step 100%. In the last year I have personally looked after two Trans men during pregnancy, and although we don't always get it right, I'm proud that the hospital I work in uses inclusive language around pregnancy. It's not about erasing anyone, it's about valuing everyone XXX

NB, I also looked after a 13year old girl pregnant with twins. There are some fucked up people in this world, save your anger for them, and your pity for actual victims of violence against women.

I am not a bottle of pills, so that argument is flawed. Poisonous people don't come with handy labels, I'm sure life has taught you that long before now. Labels do help make sense of the world, but only in some Hegelian nightmare, do they become the be all and end all of what it is to be human.

I answered Alter earlier, but just for clarification, children can get pregnant, non binary people and trans men can all get pregnant. The style guide advises to refer to women and others to the erasure you're all afraid of is imaginary.

I agree thar the current rules in sport are a shambles, but there are ways to include trans people and keep things fair. You could have a system like boxing where your category depends on weight, perhaps make it a function of grip strength or standing jump height and classify athletes like that. Anything is better than this false binary were caught in that excludes so many.
