The $3.5 trillion package has been aborted. Dems will have to settle for something with a much lower price tag. At least a trillion less. Probably more. Or perhaps nothing at all. The one thing we know for certain is the dream of a $3.5 trillion bill that Bernie, AOC, Chuck and Nancy insisted was the minimum they would accept is dead.

The physicians performing the late term procedure, Dr. Manchin and Dr. Sinema, have taken a surgical approach, attacking key body parts such as “clean electricity program” and requiring means testing to social programs.

They should take that $3.5 trillion that's just laying around and pay down the debt.

How many posts do the trumpies need on this? It seems quite a bit.....every day is another "internal destruction" within the Democratic party

The bills will pass.

I do appreciate how much Trumpies and deficit hawks are cheering on Democrats because they agree with them on their posturing.

It would be nice to see less posturing and just get to the bottom line, but it is what it is.

A bill will pass.

Fixed it for you. The bipartisan infrastructure pork will probably pass, and possibly a supplemental pork bill as well. But make no mistake about it, the $3.5 trillion is dream off the table.

You didn't fix anything.

Both bills will pass. whether it's the amount or not is not something I care about.

Compromises will be what they are....that's part of negotiations.

Truly the insinuation seems to be that if the full amount isn't passed then it's a failure.

And that's absolutely a bullshit spin.

Did they give any reason? A clean electricity program sounds like a pretty good idea.

Did they give any reason? A clean electricity program sounds like a pretty good idea, the sort of thing on which it would be impossible to spend too much.

Meanwhile, in teh reality-based world....

None ever imploded from a clean electricity program. Communist states never had a good environmental track record.

Duh. It's because they are economic imbeciles by ideology, from Marx's labor theory of value and Lenin's insane non-monetary accounting craziness to the failed attempt to regiment society so deliciously detailed in the book "Red Plenty."

Communist states don't have a good environmental track record because they prioritize production above everything else. That's why the Aral Sea no longer exists.

But similar damage can be done in capitalist countries if the corporations always get their way. Their priority is not production as such, but next quarter's profit-and-loss statement. If they can put it in the black by means that keep us burning fossil fuels at the accustomed rate, that's exactly what they'll do.

Manchin is from West Virginia. You tell me what the coal industry thinks of clean electricity.

Now, Sinema is a fool to oppose an initiative that could bring plenty of jobs to Arizona with all its potential for solar power, but that explains one of them at least.

Heads up gang. Means testing. Learn all about it. Lefties worst enemy. Moderates best friend. Grab your popcorn 🍿

Fine, so long as it works both ways -- e.g., Social Security payroll tax should be progressive like income tax, falling very heavily on the high earners, and not at all on anyone earning less than a middle-class annual income.

No, everyone should pay their fair share and stop punishing people for being successful.

Flat tax.
