Biden ousts 18 Trump military academy board appointees

The Biden administration on Wednesday removed 18 appointees named to U.S. military
academy boards by Donald Trump in the final months of the Republican president’s term
in office, according to the White House.

18 people named to the boards of visitors for the Air Force Academy, Military Academy,
and Naval Academy

Among those Biden ousted are some high-profile Trump administration officials -
including White House counselor Kellyanne Conway (Air Force Academy)
press secretary Sean Spicer (Naval Academy)
national security adviser H.R. McMaster (Military Academy)
Office of Management and Budget director Russell Vought (Naval Academy).

White House press secretary Jen Psaki confirmed that the former Trump officials
were asked to resign or face firing.

President Biden moved swiftly-
to oust top managers loyal to former president Donald Trump who had been blamed
for recent turmoil at the federal government’s array of international news organizations
including the biggest and most influential one, the Voice of America.

In doing so, Biden appears to be putting the brakes on what critics said was an effort
by the Trump administration to turn the news agencies into mouthpieces for Trump’s
views and policies.

you know, for his age, Biden's doing a remarkable job coping with climate, pandemic, pending bills, afghanistan, storms/floodings&forest fires, insurrectionists and more. plenty of people 20 years his junior might have trouble keeping all the plates spinning and balls in the air at the same time!

Voice of America still exists?! Why the fuck?! It should have been shut down after the Cold War.

Slate: We Now Know Why Biden Was in a Hurry to Exit Afghanistan

There was a moment in Tuesday’s Senate hearing on the withdrawal
from Afghanistan, when it became clear why President Joe Biden
decided to get the troops out of there as quickly as possible.

It came when Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, explained
why he and the other chiefs—the top officers of the Army, Air Force, Navy, and
Marines—all agreed that we needed to pull out by Aug. 31.

The Doha agreement, which President Donald Trump had signed with the Taliban
in early 2020 required a total withdrawal of foreign forces. If U.S. troops had stayed
beyond August, Gen. Mark Milley said, the Taliban would have resumed the fighting
and, in order to stave off the attacks, “we would have needed 30,000 troops” and
would have suffered “many casualties.”

yep, i'm kind of surprised it took Slate this long to publish that since it's been spoken of weeks ago... i'm also surprised at the take CNN has been using up till now, with barely a nod to the size and speed of the evacuation and constantly hammering on about Milley 'might be in big trouble' (paraphrasing) about calls to his chinese counterpart when his actions involved all the people they ought to have, the call/s were made with numerous others present and after discussion with the defense secretary at the time, and conveyed trump's own (stated) intentions about not planning on starting a pre-emptive war with china.

President Joe Biden is not asserting executive privilege over a tranche of documents

President Joe Biden will not block a tranche of documents sought by a House
committee's investigation into the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

In a letter to the Archivist of the United States, White House counsel Dana Remus
writes that Biden has determined that invoking executive privilege "is not in the
best interests of the United States." This comes days after Trump lawyers sought
to block the testimony of former Trump officials to the House committee citing
executive privilege.

On Friday, a lawyer for Steve Bannon said the former White House aide won't comply
with the House committee's investigation because of Trump's claim.

In the letter, Remus writes that the documents reviewed "shed light on events within
the White House on and about January 6 and bear on the Select Committee's need
to understand the facts underlying the most serious attack on the operations of the
Federal Government since the Civil War."

The Associated Press obtained a copy of the letter Friday, which was first reported
by NBC News.

The Associated Press obtained a copy of the letter Friday, which was first reported
by NBC News.

Copies of the documents responsive to the request were turned over to the Biden
White House and Trump’s lawyers for review for potential executive privilege
concerns in accordance with federal law and the executive order governing
presidential records.

The committee’s 10-page request to the Archives seeks -
“All documents and communications within the White House on January 6, 2021,”
related to Trump’s close advisers and family members, the rally at the nearby
Ellipse and Trump’s Twitter feed. It asks for his specific movements on that day
and communications, if any, from the White House Situation Room.
Also sought are all documents related to claims of election fraud, as well as
Supreme Court decisions on the topic.
