Biden's military: American B-52 bomber escorted out of Russian airspace

The Russian Air Force scrambled three fighter jets to escort a U.S. Air Force bomber away from Russian airspace Sunday at an undisclosed location over the Pacific Ocean, Russia’s state-owned TASS news agency reported.

“[A]ir defense radars on duty in the Eastern Military Region on Sunday spotted an air target over the Pacific Ocean that was approaching Russia’s airspace,” Russia’s National Defense Command Center told Russian media on September 26.

Most of our military aircraft were designed between the 50's and 70's.

The F-22 was done in the 90's and the F-35 and one cargo plane are the only US military aircraft from this century that are in service.

Last I read, they’re planned on being in service until the 2050s. With significant upgrades, though.

That's probably true . . . but it's like reading that the Army is still using Sherman tanks.

And you know this how?

Somewhere off about 100 miles or so was an RC-135, probably of the Rivet Joint variety. The 135 was sucking up every radar and communications emission that the Russians were using to scramble those 'escorts.' All valuable information to be gathered. You see the Russian client states,including the Chinese, use much the same equipment and procedures. Actually the procedures are part of the way the equipment is used. Further the Russians do NOT make the most capable equipment available for export. So in the end it doesn't matter whether we become engaged with the Russians or not. By learning how the very best works we learn how to deal with less than the best because conflict with one of the client states is the more likely scenario.

You need to do more thinking and less typing.

I assume you didn't read the rest of the post. And whether we become engaged in conflict with the Russians at some point in the future is going to be determined on the political winds, both of ours, that neither one of us can foresee.

Regardless, I do agree that for the foreseeable future we probably won't be engaged with the Russians in armed conflict. However, we are continually engaged with their military hardware in the hands of others.

We're not going to war with their "client states" either (and Belarus is the only one they have left), and certainly not with China. This is not the Cold War -- we're not going to have any proxy wars. We don't even need the best military hardware.
