Delete story?

I got my rewrite sent back and they said to delete the old version, I have been searching and can't figure out how to remove the story, can someone point me in the right direction?

Go to "new story" and put "delete my story" as the title. Then put the link to the story you want deleted in the notes. Since you have to put info in the story text and description, I put "delete my story (title of story) please" in those areas. That process worked for me.

If they had a delete button, I'd imagine there'd be people who would delete their story and later repost it, over and over again, with different stories. would boost readership. Plus there'd be people who would delete on impulse.

For deletion, this is what I do:

If your story is called "Hello"

Then submit a story titled "Hello -- DELETE"

And in the text and notes, write "Please delete 'Hello'"

Holy cow! I can't believe they wouldn't just have a delete button lol

Aside from the risk of someone hacking accounts and going through having fun deleting. Considering an 8 digit password can be hacked in about 10 seconds...and I'm sure most have less.

I have a 64 bit encrypted password on all my stuff that needs password. ;)

8 digits?! Who used such a short password? especially these days.

People tend to be sloppy about things like that. I use a 22 digit on important areas but here, I'm betting a lot of authors have simple passwords.

Are you looking to delete the old version altogether (along with all reader comments/scores/etc.) or do you just want to make some tweaks while leaving the comments etc. up?

If the latter, don't delete. Instead, submit it as "MyStoryName - EDIT" to replace story text while keeping the other stuff.

I guess i just don't understand what I am supposed to do, there is no database on how to do these things

Do that.

I have used this exact process as well with EDIT. However, when you follow this path, your previous rating, views, comments, etc. are still kept in place as noted above. It is not a 'do over clean slate' erasure method. :)

Not sure about the DELETE added to the story title, though, never done that one - yet ;0

bits, bites, what's all the fuss?

64 bits = 8 characters, doesn't it?

Not necessarily, for example, I found this reference showing that's not always the case:
How many bytes is a character?
64-bit UNIX applications
Name Length
char 1 byte
short 2 bytes
int 4 bytes
long 8 bytes

But hey, why all this discussion about passwords here? I keep mine at default and it works fine! No one I know would use my password!

it's kind of like being a party with two convos in the same space. lol.

Back on track for a minute if that's okay... my story was sent back because;

"To prevent readers' annoyance at stories from being posted on the site more than once, would you like us to 1) remove the old story and post this one as 'new'; or 2) replace the text of the old story with this new title and text? Do know that if you choose #2, the story will be ineligible for contest wins as it is a previously posted story. (Very very Necessary)"

The old story is long gone... i don't understand what I can do, they are just going to keep bouncing it back.

If you are getting a story sent back, resubmit it and put in a Note to the Editor saying exactly what you are trying to do, and there appears to be some confusion.

You have two chaptered stories published. Are you trying to change one of those?

According to the FAQ section, one way to do it is to sent a PM to Laurel. There is even an addressed message box there to fill in with your request.
