I think cute is good in certain context.
Like if you're wearing a cute outfit or you are having a cute smile.

Otherwise cute for a general aesthetic should be reserved for younger girls (like under 10.)

Doesn't bother me. I guess it depends on the feel or tone. But it is the word I use most often. So I don't get offended. Not every guy can be "hot" or "sexy", same with women. I don't use cute as a way to offend someone. I happen to love cute guys. They are by far my weak spot, more than the super hot guy.

I don’t mind being called darling or love but then that is normal language where I come from. Actually “duck” is the most widely used term in my hometown. “Ay up mi duck” is how you would get greeted. Dear makes me feel old.

SO with you on this. We're living in tense times in which there are so many things that are genuinely offensive, and so mostly I take the small stuff as well-intentioned if maybe not what I had in mind.

(Totally get the cute thing, though. Although I hate "sweet" more. I am a lot of things, but sweet is very rarely one of them.)
