The actual Ponzi scheme is much bigger than the "government". The belief that the national and world economies need to be based on continuous growth (on a planet that has finite resources) is the bigger problem. The Growth God is worshiped regularly in stock markets all around this world.

I agree that people need to be prepared for economic collapse, but accumulating money is not the only solution. The value of money can be so variable, particularly under conditions of economic collapse. The value of a land base and essential tools are less variable over the very long run.

I really wish there were more charities that focused on helping out people in the most need to negotiate their financial situations.

The whole insolvency of SS has been a right wing talking point for decades. I'm not saying there is absolutely no merit, but it has certainly been hyperbolic for political motivations for far too long, making it difficult for anyone to truly get a sense of the pulse of the truth.

We have far too many people in the US that live paycheck to paycheck. We have far too many people without the proper nohow or time to invest in their financial well-being. Stocks and IRAs are nice, but are typically available to those who are already in a position to maintain and grow their wealth.

Perhaps having more businesses set aside plans that focus on children of their employees. Instead of investing in themselves, offer more programs, with company buy-in, where less "well-off" especially, are able to put money into a fund for their children.

Not looking for an argument on the topic - just dumping my thoughts here for discussion.

You worry too much about "the government" imposing on your individualism, without thinking through what is really essential to living in community. There are scattered communities that get along just fine without worshiping the God of Growth, and their local governments reflect stability.

The big problem at the national scale throughout the world is instability caused by basing national economies on unsustainable growth. Currently, the real heresy is talking about transitioning from unsustainable growth (Ponzi) to sustainability. You just tend to focus on how Ponzi thinking is related to the Social Security Administration.
