I always liked what he did with the rhythm on "Paint It Black" - that kind of Middle Eastern thing. It wouldn't have been nearly as good of a song with a slower beat (though I think others eventually recorded it that way). He knew his craft well.

Nice that you liked it, but it’s just a raga tune and hardly the first by a long stretch.

Truth is Charlie was a pretty decent jazz drummer in a sloppy blues/rock combo, one that made lots of money.

There was hardly anything groundbreaking musically about the Stones.
