Today in 1305, William Wallace was executed

Who loved the movie, Braveheart featuring Mel Gibson?

not me

his accent was terrible, the historical accuracy terribly flawed, though some of the costumes were cute. and the scenery was nice.

i hated the movie but then, i hate anything with mel gibson unless it's a mad max film.

supposedly william wallace is one of my ancestors. i don't know that that is true but i've never wanted to wear a kilt.

If you can leave your brain at the door, I suppose it is a fairly decent movie. I watched it in a theatre in my hometown of Glasgow in 1996 and almost the entire audience stood and applauded it at the end.

Those fuckers on Scottish television showed the movie on tv, on the eve of our independence referendum in 2014, in a final bid to sway the vote. Thank fuck that people have more sense than that!

It is full of historical inaccuracies, including the playing of "Outlawed tunes on outlawed pipes," at Wallace's Father's funeral. These Bagpipes didn't start to appear in Scotland until 250 years after Wallace's death.

As for him getting The Princess of Wales up the duff? Did ye, aye?

Same - especially when the real stories of these people were way more interesting than the crock Hollywood pukes/d out. Isabella alone warrants a whole miniseries ...

He didn't wear a kilt so you're good to go.

It was made to make money, NOT to reflect historical accuracy, so it was a piece of shit.

Why does that one thing make it a piece of shit? Very very very few historical movies are even half accurate. It's not what movies are for. Want accuracy? Watch a documentary. Otherwise it's a movie made for entertainment and to make money.

Uhm, not very damned many movies ARE historically accurate. They almost always take many liberties in the name of entertainment.

William Wallace was executed in 1305.

Isabella, wife of Edward II who he was supposed to get pregnant in the movie, was born in 1295.

So she could not have been older than ten when Wallace rode unaccompanied across Scotland and encountered Isabella riding equally unaccompanied.

Why a Princess should ride around in enemy territory without an entourage was never really explained.

It was a good pre-fight night movie.

I would sit there with a bottle of tequila and get in the mood...
