So, I figure there are a ton of people I don't know here (lots of new faces so to speak) I used to have a thread for shooting the shit, or just yakking about whatever is on your mind. I figure it's time for another, and people can get to know me, or anyone else that chooses to post in here.

Every once in a while I'll post a "Stupid Question" like I used to, or try and start interesting topics to talk about. Maybe you want to post pictures of things you've made, or projects you'd like to start, or maybe just get some advice.

The only thing I ask, is that you leave politics and religion at the door :D

So post and have fun!

I'll throw a question out there, because I need some help coming up with No, or Low protein meals. I'm in end stage kidney failure, and they want me to cut my protein intake way down because its hard on my kidneys and I don't need it since I can't get the exercise that most people get (due to fatigue)

So if you've got any ideas, I'd appreciate them (Keep in mind that carbs are full of sugars)

Sadly, I am far from an expert on nutrition. What kind of meals are you eating now?

Your health issues put everything into perspective Deacon.

Low protein? I hope the clinic or hospital you are receiving treatment in had a nutritionist who can guide you on the right foods.

A vegetable rice dish might work?

Sending you best wishes from Germany.

Currently I eat way to much protein. Chicken, beef, pork loin, things like that. I do eat rice but it's high in carbs and doesnt fill me up for very long. I do like and eat carrots, corn, green beans, tomatoes, melon, strawberries, and other fruits. I do like soups, bu I have to watch the salt.

I have found that sweet peppers, red, yellow orange that are sauteed with onions, pepper and some garlic are pretty tasty and I think they are foods that would be good for the type of diet you are looking for but don't quote me....but I would look into it.

Sweet potatoes, beets, tuna, salmon, green leafy veggies, celery, cauliflower rice, roasted brussel sprouts, avocados or guacamole, chickpeas or hummus, nuts and grains (salad toppings for example), mushrooms, eggplant...off the top of my head, this is what I thought of.

If you are not allowed protein, then you will need carbs to fill up on? Vegetables are not going to do it for you long term.

Yum yum yum! What’s for dinner BCC? I’m starving ☺️

I’m having to look into kidney friendly foods as well, and so far all I’m finding is an ever increasing list of things to avoid! Bananas were the one that shocked me.

I’ve stocked up on berries, but haven’t found any useful recipes yet.

Looks like I'll be starting off with sauteed veggies, and rice. You've all given me some great choices :D

I had a nutritionist, but they don't do much (at least on my insurance) They gave me a big stack of lists, very few actual recipes, and a handful of web addresses. Half the web addresses are no longer online, or they have food that will drive my blood sugar levels sky high. I'm insulin resistant, so i have to be really careful.

Cauliflower. You can mash it like potatoes, make rice out of it, or just eat it. Very low carb and versatile. I have some in my fridge right now. How soon can you get here? :D

Here's what I know. Brown rice, lots of vegetables, and fried white rice mixed with veggies.

Here's a really informative reading link.

Fara and others are spot on in recommending your doctor getting you connected with a nutritionist.

I have fond memories of the original Shoot the Shit threads from years past, so I have to subscribe to this!

I'm the last person you want to ask about for nutrition, but it sounds like others have picked up my slack and made great recommendations.

Forget the bar; where's the coffee at?

Something from a nearby restaurant:

Brown stew chicken (without rice), hot potato salad and cabbage. A Caribbean dish. Don’t feel like cooking.

It’s hot outside. It’s 86°f (30°c) but feels like 96°f (36°c) when you add in the humidity. A/C is a beautiful thing.
