Just got a new mobile (cell) phone today - it comes with a charging lead - but no plug, Over a grands worth of phone, but lacking a fivers worth of plug FFS! I explained to the network that without a charger i couldnt use the phone, so their income would go down. Their Response? we only sell the phones.

Anyone else come across such couldnt give a flying **** attitude?

(its Samsung BTW)

Inflation.

Ever since governments figured it out that they could devalue their currency by blaming big business for their bad monetary policy if they used "inflation" as a term of art, companies have been looking for ways to pass on that government tax on spending to the consumers without looking like they are the ones responsible for declining purchasing power. (They aren't.)

This is why boxes of cereal get narrower and shorter. Anything to keep their margins close to intact.

Government has been doing that since the time of Marcus Aurelius...

Great guy, great book he left, but he filled his coin with lead.

This goes back to the 50's H when some devices in UK needed either 5, 7, or 15 amp plugs so it was a convenient excuse. When they standardized with 13 amps square pin with an internal fuse they kept up the old scam. You're probably too young to remember.

I remember some plugs with square pins, and some sockets with round apertures, also a thing like a lightbulb base/cap (bayonet fitting) which had wires coming out to the appliance and it was inserted into a light sockets.

ive also in the recent past bought things that a choice of two pin plug, or three pin plug. its profiteering and lazyness, coupled with after sales greed by the manufacturers, if something is for the UK market it needs a 3 pin plug and a charger lead that fits it. if anyone wants to move data around they can choose which USB lead they want to buy.

NOT just cereal.

Candy, soap, chips (crisps), etc.

You name it, everything is getting smaller or lighter, for the same price

Hobbit’s formative years and his first marriage were irrevokably damaged by the phrase “batteries not included”.
