'Bird guts all over!' GOP lawmaker warns solar panels will make 'thousands' of birds 'explode'

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) on Thursday warned of the many dangers in passing the bipartisan Senate infrastructure bill -- including funding solar power plants that will purportedly cause an epidemic of exploding birds.

In an interview with far-right One America News, Gohmert outlined his objections to the infrastructure plan before uncorking an angry rant about solar farms in particular.

"Another part of that Green Deal is the huge solar farm that they have out on the border of California and Nevada," he said. "Thousands of acres of concave mirrors that magnify the sun toward three towers that heat up the liquid in there and turn turbines."

He then decried the supposed negative impact that this plant has on local bird populations.

I once saw a billboard on the Interstate warning of the dangers windmills pose to birds.

Presumably placed by an oil company. No environmentalist group makes this an issue.

Digital billboards are also a deadly hazard for birds.

not a mention of 'exploding' birds

and confirmation that solar farms kills far fewer birds than oil/gas/coal
In 2016, a first-of-its-kind study estimated that the hundreds of utility-scale solar farms around the US may kill nearly 140,000 birds annually. That’s less than one-tenth of one percent of the estimated number of birds killed by fossil-fuel power plants (through collisions, electrocution, and poisoning)

so, renewables doing the environmentally responsible thing:
“The important thing is to reduce solar’s environmental impact in every form,” says Yuki Hamada, a biophysical scientist at Argonne who is leading the project. “These avian issues are a concern and something that the renewable energy industry wants to understand and mitigate.”

.
Bellysores either didn't read that article or has a mental defect that interferes with reading comprehension.

Now the question is, who is dumber; Goomer or Bellysores???

That's a tough one.

:D

Here's just a little problem. The ones dead at the solar farms have been counted as opposed to estimated.

Electrocution was a problem back in the 70's, especially for large birds of prey like Golden and Bald Eagles. Congress passed a law that mandated that the high tension wires be spaced further apart, end of that problem.

Further, that particular statement is just plain silly. How do you think solar power is distributed? Wifi?

So still no exploding birds, and all the other reasons that fossil fuel generation of electricity kills birds at far higher rates are still valid then.

Got it.

Thanks for playing.

:D

I don't believe that Crazy Louie gives a shit about any bird exploding or not unless it's being served to him as dinner.
