I'm new to Literotica and excited to start posting my first stories to the site, but I'm a bit stumped by the category system. Specifically, what to do when you have a story that would fit equally applicably under multiple categories, when as I understand it you can only choose one.
For instance, let's say I have a story that is Gay Male, but also Incest and Celebrity/Fanfiction. Which one do I choose? Which category takes priority?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

I've operated as Gay Male having sway over the other two you mention after experimenting and finding the best response in Gay Male. The submissions editor, Laurel, who has last say on category placement, has gone with that on my stories (including celebrity, which one would think would have highest sway because it comes with special category caveat). To know where other categories are most likely to fit in the preferred assignment rankings, you'd need to identify them.

The strongest theme and major point to the plot. Example; I write a fantasy story about super hero brother and sister, who each ended up dating outside of their race, but for plot bunnies sake, has to have sex with each other to recharge their powers, if their significant others are secondary or less characters, it's not going to be in I/R. Seeing as they are incestuous heros; one of those is going to be the main focus of the story, this being Lit; if them fucking takes presidence over their hero duty, they must have sex and most crime is easilly dispatched, possibly for a challenging villain, a quicky mid battle is needed for a boost, or recharged overused powers. The story will be considered incest and aimed at the incest catagory first and fantasy second. What theme are you playing the most, and what's just there for a well-rounded characters sake?

Also what Keith didn't tell you is Laurel; our fearless leader and dictator(as in she dictates what's allowed, not that she's evil), whom runs and publishes stuff to this site by herself(and Manu), may pick the section for you, that is deemed best. If I put that story in fantasy, because superheros, the amount of sibling sex, would convince her it goes in incest.

I also just want to go ahead and say mind her rules, such as sex and people under 18 in any fashion or degree is a no-no. If you see a story that seemed to skirt any rule, well either they wrote it good enough to slip by, or she didn't pay enough attention. The email form does't work, you hafta contact Laurel directly through PM's with any grievence. Stay out of Loving Wives unless you like a challenge, or pissing off trolls, or a glutton for punishment. Just write your shit, votes, likes, favorites, subscribers will happen eventually. Certain sections have their own rules, like in Fan Fiction, you can't age up characters, so no Peanuts Gang at their high school reunion... like I wasted here, because I forgot.

Thanks for your quick replies! Keith seems to be saying orientation trumps everything else. But according to the article Simon linked (thanks, btw, it was very helpful), I would put it under Celebrity since it's fanfiction. I thought it would probably come down to those two. Hmm. I posed it as a hypothetical, but this dilemma actually applies to two stories I want to upload to this site--though really they're Fanfiction/Gay Male/Incest/Noncon. Hmm... I suppose I'll just pick one and add a note saying I wasn't sure where they belonged.

Thanks for the advice, Jax. Yeah, I actually sent an email off to the 'support' email address with this question but didn't get a reply. How would I find her if I did need to contact her?
