High heels

Back in the day, I did a series like that for Lit. Alas and alak that they don't have room on their servers anymore for direct posting.

And I miss having heels like that, that are actually comfortable. After I wore my last pair out, I haven't been able to find a pair that are styled like that, that are really wearable. Because yes, I like to actually WEAR my heels, not just totter around in them for 5 minutes until I land on my back. Either they are uncomfortable as hell, or they have an ugly rounded toe.

*sigh*

So true, as my wife lives in her high heels...

Sadly the easiest shoes to get and fall in love with their style is at the lower end shoes stores which tend to just be knock offs of the more famous designers, but cheapen the construction which can make them uncomfortable for her to wear. Its the same with the shoe-of-the-month clubs that do the same thing: have cheap knock-offs.

You get what you pay for, so higher-end heels tend to be a bit more comfortable for her, but at some point, heels just hurt her feet.

What we do is bring different pairs for her to change into. Lets say we are going to dinner and then a sporting event. She will wear the higher heeled shoes for the expensive restaurant, but then switch to more comfortable shoes at the sporting event as it might be a long wait in line at the concession stands, or a long hike to our seats.

Other times...she just goes barefoot. We did it in reverse one time where we went to a game, and then dinner afterwards and her heels were just murder on her feet by this point. So she just walked barefoot the half-mile back to the hotel carrying her heels. In that case, we should have just planned things better.

Hi ImiGirrst... Thanks for commenting!

Impressive... You're the first Woman I've ever known to say you've had heels which were actually comfortable to wear... I guess it's a fine balance, and by the sound of things, very frustrating not to find a replacement pair... I kinda wish I could source you a pair!

I also admire your dedication, and longevity in wearing heels...:rose:

Hey CuttingEdge... You're living the dream buddy! Couldn't happen to a nicer fella...

I am not so sure about that! (LOL)

I remember a LONG time ago though, the wife wearing high heels to a New Years Eve Dance Party and them hurting her feet at the end of the night, so.....

She walked from the club to the car...barefoot in a way, as she was only wearing pantyhose.

That would not be a big deal normally, but it was Jan 1st, and while snow was cleared off the parking lot, it was -20 degrees (f) that night! I could not believe she did that!! That is no exaggeration on the temp either. It was that cold that night!

Hi CuttingEdge... What if the cold night air relived your Wife's foot pain? She might've found it soothing?...

Now THIS is how you wear hose with open toed/sandal heels. Maybe I'm just a stickler for lines, but I find it the height of tacky to show a seam from hose at the toe. If you're going to do/wear something, do it right or not at all. Go big or go home!

And yeah, I get that not everyone has legs like I do, especially at my age. Hell, I don't have the legs I used to, but age gracefully and find out what works for you.

If there is one thing I've learned about Lit, it's that there is always someone around who appreciates your assets. So there is no reason not to do you, even with there are other snarky women around. I just don't think there is any reason to give others fodder to snipe at you about. (And I don't really want to be lumped with them because I made the point about clean lines - In my mind, my comment is about the caliber of execution, not the choice you made in the first place.)

Hey, ImiGirrst... I'll be honest, I kind of see the toes/foot before any seam if it's there... But I do appreciate your point...

Certainly hosiery in the past fifty years or so, has come on so much... There is absolutely no reason for seams anymore. But like many fashions, there is a market for 'retro' goods... But I do agree the photo of the Woman in 'nets is scrumptious. A perfect opportunity for a guy like me to have unfettered access...

You go Girl! If you've got it, flaunt it... Life is way too short to worry about other peoples opinions...:rose:

Justplatonic - thank you for your kind words, but I kinda feel like you are complimenting me on something that makes me demanding. Life is too short to NOT wear comfortable shoes.

I totally agree with CuttingEdge about knock-offs, but I respectfully disagree about expense. I've had incredibly expensive shoes that were painful as hell. But I just bought 5 pairs of Skechers heels that are comfortable as sin that were all of $20 a pair. Who knew Skechers did heels?? And heels with bling to boot! For the first time in years, I'm going to be able to put on a pair of heels with a gown that a) I won't walk out of and b) will actually forget that I'm wearing them.

As for longevity in wearing heels, I think, for me, the biggest limiting factor was putting on weight. I found that putting on forty lbs really wreaked havoc with the ability of the balls of my heels to handle the pressure. I am convinced now that is why platforms are popular with the older crowd or the working class crowd. Because you have to have the padding if your own body doesn't have it. (Stop reading here and jump to the next paragraph if you have a weak stomach - I can actually feel the fibers in the balls of my feet separating when I wear shoes without good soles.)

Unfortunately, I also have an odd shaped foot. It's on the short side for my height, wide before the toes and knobby at the heel. So I feel like Cinderella's stepsister whenever I try to jam my feet into lousy shoes. I think for every pair that I have found that I can actually stand in, only every third pair I was capable of wearing for any length of time. And I'm a stickler for actually staying in them. Not that I mind going barefoot or wearing sandals - I live for it.

Okay, I've babbled on way too long.

I agree...

To me it just seems like (pun intended) that some ladies do not really pair sandals with the right stockings or pantyhose, and the look can be rather gaudy.

I try not to be too judgmental about that because they might have had limited choices that morning, and just worn what they had. Still, seams are visible and can either compliment the heel type, or contrast with it, and to pull off a nice crisp look means pairing the right heels with the right hosiery.

They call it "sandal foot hosiery" for a reason!

You're welcome, ImiGirrst...

I'd like to reassure you... You're in the right place, with the right crowd to talk about feet and heels... My take, a self confessed sub with a foot fetish (and several other fetishes), what you see as demanding, I simply see as passionate...

Actually, who would want to wear glass heels?...

I commend you for thinking outside the box... Sketchers? Who knew...
