that term is international and dates back to the days of privateers on the spanish maine. most of them had a parrot, a brave few had a monkey, but often the phrase ''are you lookin at my bird?'' would lead to being attacked by some weird fucker with a cutlass who stank of rum''

The phrase '' do you want to spank my monkey'' is something very different and was later replaced with ''Hello Sailor''

on the topic of gender labelling though, my nomenclature for most others is ''nonemale'' which encompasses uterus owners and trannies all in one label.
