FOUND: Ship's captain saves mysterious woman, time period 1800s or early 1900s?

What I remember from maybe 5 years ago is that a Great Lakes ship's captain rescues a woman from the water and eventually they fall in love because she perhaps has amnesia; the story was about 3 pages, perhaps longer; the prose was broody and filled with details about the ship, which has only the captain handling it. Two authors I favored at the time were scouries and sr71plt and likely the story was tagged 'historical.' Thanks for any hints - I realize it's not much to go on.

Thanks and I feel sure this is the one - the date of the OP, details of sailing, time period and the captain's basic shyness in the beginning all ring true. I don't know why the Great Lakes setting struck such a chord unless it's because my very good friend (for 43 years!) comes from Rochester!
