The current state of popular music: #1 & #2 iTunes albums are...forty+ years old!

the only new shit i like is dream pop stuff that hasn't a hope in hell of being massive pop hits. also, i keep forgetting itunes is still a thing. i just use spotify or youtube and lately i've just been binging on old shit myself like the kinks and pere ubu.

and that's my at best semi-relevant take on this subject.

David Crosby (ex-boyfriend) on Joni Mitchell.

"Imagine if you wrote a song — a really good song — and you sang it to her when she came home and then she sang you three better songs that she'd written last night," Crosby recalled.

Great music is timeless. There isn’t much on my playlist that isn’t old.

a lot of the "hit" music now only has one or two lines of lyrics that are repeated ad nauseating for the entire song.

No wonder the biggest hits are oldies.

The stuff from 4o years ago was played on the radio 3x per hour because...payola. Nobody gets that kind of exposure now. :)

Pretty sure it just means, 60 and 70 year olds, finally figured out how to use apple products.

Based on what young people are listening to and talking about, I don't think so.

(Or, what they watch. Vintage rock is all over their shows, for instance.)
