OK -- I uploaded Part 2 of my three part I/T story tonight. The category that I'm trying as an experiment because of this forum.

Part 1 is over 51k views in a month. Interesting. I was only going to write one of these just to experience the reaction to posting, but as I always preach, the characters dictate the story and my two lovers insisted upon a three part series.

My wife, who is my proof-reader -- said she will no longer proof I/T stories for me. So I will have to carve a new road for the finale.

I'm pondering dipping my toe into LW just to see what the buckshot is after all of the posts on here, but I'm not sure that my bullet-proof vest is ready, and I don't want to go back into therapy

You want a lot of view and votes, I/T and LW are the categories to get them. They say GM is another, but I don't write gay male.

You don't get many votes in Gay Male. And even fewer comments. My current contest entry has 10.4k votes (quite good) but only 26 votes. Even a red H doesn't lead to many more views or votes. It's a very busy category, mostly full of 18-yos first times (in varying degrees of plausibility) or older men's first times, usually involving sissy aspects (mostly lower degrees of plausibility). Anything else literate will get decent scores but not necessarily readers.

Anal - now they're an opinionated bunch who like voting! Over 200 votes per 10k views...

LA, I understand your wife’s reluctance. Some categories (which vary by person and personal tastes) are a step beyond the comfort zone. If you’re reading for pleasure but not comfortable with the topic, what’s the fun in that? Hope you find a good editor who can help.

Regarding views and voting, my writing doesn't venture into those categories so I can't comment on them. Romance is looking good to me at the moment, but part of that is the Nude Day contest advertising. I’m currently at over 600 votes on a little over 13k views. Similarly, advertising on Geek Pride has helped that story in Mature with almost 600 votes on 22k views. I only have one story with more votes than those and just two with more views (both of which were contest entries). Contests and special events like Geek Pride definitely boost views (and seemingly votes) but how many of those views are people clicking in to check the word count and moving on is questionable.

As for comments, they're like gold. Very valuable, hard to find, and harder to collect.

I/T and LW are the top viewed and get more stats then other categories. I think LW may get more comments at this point.

The difference although every category has some trolls, I/T is a fairly laid back group just happy to enjoy the kink so a mostly positive reaction.

As you've heard LW will be far more negative remarks that range from simple you suck or "fuck off cuck" to long hate filled rants full of every type of prejudice you can imagine.

Mixed in there will be a few good ones, but most will be crap. If you're not thin skinned, go for it. If nasty comments get to you, stick with a more friendly popular category.

This is a GM-tolerant site, not a GM-friendly one (over twenty straight categories. One and a half for GM; criticism when GM isn't kept to its category; jabbing here on the discussion board in comparing stats with the site-preferred Incest and LW categories). That said, my GM stories get significantly more views here, albeit with fewer votes, than at GM-specific story sites. So, I just post broadly and appreciate each site for what it provides. There aren't many GM story comments on any of the sites, but I attribute that to the habits of GM readers in general--not leaving a specific footprint that they've been there.

Interesting, I never knew Anal drew that many votes. Its a high percentage because I don't think it has a large readership.

The only person I saw absolutely rock GM with not just scores, but good vote totals and comments was ironically a teenage girl-well when she started-that went by "cruel2bekind" that might not be the correct spelling of the name, she hasn't been here in a long time.

I've written one GM scene for a novel, I've thought about building a frame around it to make it into a full story out of curiosity to see how it would go over here, but its one of many things on a list and with only so much time to write.

It takes me to a place and time far from 'the here and now'; garter belts and whiskey were the norm and encounters like this were done in dark rooms, behind closed doors. Today, I'm traditionally thankful for writers like you, who haven't forgotten the recipe for recreating what once was romance with a sinfully naughty flavor.

I find this very interesting. I have yet to submit in the Anal category, but include it in nearly every story because, to be honest, it is my kink.

As we speak, I am about halfway through an anal story that I am writing in partnership with Eva_Adams. It is a ping-pong where the story goes back and forth between our two characters. She's writing hers and I'm editing hers and vice versa.

Now I'm enthused to see the reaction when we submit it.

I don’t know if this is an anomaly or not, but for me, BDSM stories have gotten the most reaction (outside of a contest Romance). More than my I/T foray, for instance.

Anal has always been very kind to me. My only foray that didn't do particularly well was a blackmail tale.
