I've been, for some time now, a proponent of the FairTax.org.

Taxes should be commodity neutral (and it excludes taxes on basic foods).

A cheeseburger should be taxed the same as any other good or service.
We must curtail government's ability to pick winners and losers.
 
It doesn't matter what the triggering mechanism is, the principle is an iron law of economics.
