I remember Speaker Boehner crying about the debt his grandchildren would inherit. Fiscal conservatism isn't popular during Republican administrations.

Republicans are full of shit way more than Democrats.

What I wonder is, of the Trump activists (defining "activist" broadly, to mean anybody who attends a rally, donates money, or does anything for the cause beyond voting), how many are new to activism? How many were already activists for the Tea Party or Ross Perot?

IOW, how successful has Trump been in mobilizing a force not previously mobilized?

speaking strictly from personal experience of the tea party'ers i know, yes. they transmogrified into red hatters. which is a good thing. any party or group that extends itself to the furthest limit of its philosophy automatically destroys itself.

It was born around 2009, delivered Congressional majorities to the GOP in 2010, 2012, and 2014. Also big gains in most state houses and state legislatures. If morphed into MAGA in 2016. Labels come and go. Distrust of big government the media hasn’t diminished. Mistrust of big tech has emerged as an additional force. Gun ownership is on the rise, cryptocurrency has emerged as an alternative to traditional financial institutions.
