As the coronavirus pandemic wreaked havoc on America during Donald Trump's presidency last year, failed Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton lambasted as racist the president's suggestions that the virus may have originated in a Chinese lab.

Just over a decade earlier, however, then-Secretary of State Clinton seems to have had a much different perspective.

According to a leaked State Department cable from 2009, Clinton expressed concerns that the Wuhan Institute of Virology — newly accredited with biosafety level 4 clearance — could lead to "biological weapons proliferation."

States like California that had some of the strictest lockdowns, had essentially the same mortality rate as a state like Florida which began opening up last summer. After Biden came into office we learned that the federal government didn't have much power. You couldn't order a national mask mandate. He could only enforce it where there was federal jurisdiction like airports and courthouses.

Depends on how you want to define "bioweapon".

A bioweapon is a genetically engineered, or artificially bred, microorganism intended to kill people.

Such have only been used in war once that I've heard of: By the Japanese in China. Look up "Unit 731." As bioweapons tend to do, it blew back on them and killed 10,000 Japanese soldiers. They should never be used unless you've inoculated your own people to them.

I think one of the prevailing ideas is that if the virus was created in the Wuhan lab, it was not intentionally released but somehow got through the security protocols. That would explain why their own people got it first.

What a stupid claim. While nobody is giving Trump an 'A+' for CoVID response, he was toward the leading edge in terms of limiting contact with China. And when, in January 2020, he did announce controls on people coming from China both Biden and Pelosi tried to make political hay out of it by claiming it was .... wait for it .... raaaaaaaaaacist.

Team Trump quickly geared up an unprecedented effort to develop an effective vaccine. Meanwhile, MSM celebrated Gov Cuomo, who demanded that nursing home facilities in New York accept CoVID patients when they were totally unequipped to do so. That lead to the worst outbreaks in the USA. CNN's reaction was to have the governor's brother interview him.

I for one think DeSantis' approach in Florida, which involved trying to protect the most vulnerable in the state's population as best as could be done, while allowing everyone else to go about their lives. The idea that the government can prevent you from earning a living because it thinks you *might* become infectious is monstrous.

Finally, I will note that the school where I taught until the end of the most recent academic year had held class in person for most of the school year. While we followed sensible protocols, neither students nor staff encountered serious health problems.

Nope, that is not at all clear. It very well could have been an unintenional lab leak from a program to develop a bioweapon. You have no idea of the goals of the program from which the CCP virus may have leaked. I can only wonder at your hubris in thinking that you do.

Interestingly, a senior commander in the Peoples Liberation Army was quoted a few years ago speaking about developing a bioweapon that could be aimed a specific racial or ethnic groups.
