Biden steps up to defend America against domestic terrorism —

Sometime ago, people were asking, “Are there any adults left in the Republican Party?”

It seems to me that there are not.

You see, while Biden is stepping up to protect America from domestic terrorism, the Republicans seem intent to defend the terrorists, incite the terrorists or campaign for the votes of the terrorists. I mean, let’s take a look at recent events here in the United States of America.

Domestic terrorist Cesar Sayoc mailed pipe bombs to Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Senator Kamala Harris, former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, actor Robert De Niro, former U.S. President Barack Obama, former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, U.S. Senator and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as well as other public figures who have been critical of Donald Trump.

Much more recently, a group of right-wing terrorists who call themselves the Wolverine Watchmen plotted to kidnap Governor Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan and ignite a “civil war”.

And more recently still, a group of armed criminals stalked a campaign bus that was in Texas to promote Joseph Biden’s candidacy. They used pickup trucks to box in the campaign bus and tried to force it off the road. They also rammed an SUV that was traveling with the campaign bus.

And of course there was the violent attempt to overthrow the U.S. government when hundreds of armed Trump supporters stormed the Capitol, assaulted police officers and attempted to kill Nancy Pelosi and Mike Pence and coerce members of Congress into certifying Trump as the winner of the 2020 election.

These acts of violence and domestic terrorism have been encouraged, rationalized and praised by right-wing forces in America such as Donald Trump, Tucker Carlson, Laura Ingraham and Fox “news” Channel. They try to make the terrorists sound like patriots, and they try to make their victims sounds like criminals.

Of course, now that there’s an adult in the White House, we see some of these Republicans trying to distance themselves from the terrorists.

Now, Laura Ingraham is trying to say that the thugs who stormed the Capitol were probably not Trump supporters....even though they themselves said that they were following Trump’s orders and that their ultimate goal was to kill Nancy Pelosi and get the remaining members of Congress to certify Trump as the legitimate president of the United States.

Tucker Carlson claims that we “may never know the truth” about who stormed the Capitol and why they did it.

We have over 20,000 hours of video of the armed insurrectionalists and their own testimony about what they did and why they did it. But the Republicans are childishly claiming they have no idea who they were.

Biden is going to have an uphill battle on domestic terrorism. The Republicans are going to dig their heels in and do everything they can to obstruct him and validate the terrorists.

Three of those Wolverine Watchmen guys now face new charges, including conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction and federal firearm violations, in the newly detailed scheme to explode a bridge.

“The defendants engaged in domestic terrorism,” said an indictment filed on Wednesday.

Attorney General Merrick Garland is requesting $85 million in additional funding from Congress to bolster the Justice Department and FBI's efforts to combat domestic terrorism, according to a copy of his opening remarks before a House Appropriations subcommittee.

Why it matters: Garland, FBI Director Christopher Wray and intelligence agencies have repeatedly warned that violent extremists pose an "elevated" threat against the country this year.

The attorney general has pledged to crack down on violence linked to white supremacists and right-wing militia groups, and has made prosecuting those involved in the Jan. 6 Capitol siege his top priority.
Garland told Congress in February that "we are facing a more dangerous period than we faced in Oklahoma City" in 1995, when an extremist attack killed 168 people and injured over 680 others.
By the numbers: The Justice Department is seeking a $45 million increase in funding for the FBI for domestic terrorism investigations and $40 million for U.S. attorneys to manage domestic terrorism cases.

Garland will also ask Congress to increase the agency's civil rights funding by $33 million in part to help protect voting rights and prosecute hate crimes.

Calls Mount for Biden to Form Presidential 1/6 Commission After GOP's Cowardly Filibuster

A growing number of Democrats are calling for President Joe Biden to form a commission to investigate the attack at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, after Republican lawmakers blocked a bill that would have allowed Congress to do so.

On Friday, 35 GOP Senators blocked a bill that was passed in the Democratic-led House that sought to form a bipartisan commission to investigate the events of Capitol riot. The House-approved bill was modeled after a 9/11 style commission, and sought to establish a 10-person committee, evenly split between Democrats and Republicans, tasked with investigating the facts and circumstances of the assault.

Five people died as a result of the Capitol riot, when a mob of pro–Donald Trump supporters sought to disrupt the congressional certification of Joe Biden's electoral victory.

After Senate Republicans moved Friday to block the legislation through a filibuster, with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell calling the bill a "purely political exercise," Democrats are now seeking alternative ways to form the investigative committee.

On Saturday, Virginia Democratic Representative Gerry Connolly called on Biden to bypass Republicans and instead create a presidential commission.

"In light of the GOP's cowardly filibuster of a bipartisan Jan 6th commission I urge President Biden to form and appoint a Presidential Commission to fully investigate the insurrection of January 6th at the US Capitol," Connolly tweeted.

Cop Nearly Killed By Trump Mob Rips GOP For ‘Peddling Bullshit’ On U.S. Capitol Riot

A D.C. police officer who was captured by the Jan. 6 mob at the U.S. Capitol and nearly beaten to death is calling out Republican lawmakers who are openly denying the violence that happened that day.

Officer Michael Fanone told CNN’s Don Lemon:

“I’m not interested in getting into political squabbles. I’m not a politician. I’m not an elected official. I don’t expect anybody to give two shits about my opinions. But I will say this: Those are lies. And peddling that bullshit is an assault on every officer that fought to defend the Capitol. It’s disgraceful.”

Since the attack, several GOP lawmakers have gone into full denial mode, with Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-Ga.) claiming “there was no insurrection” and insisting the footage from that day looked like “a normal tourist visit.”

Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.), who was blamed by his own family for helping to incite the riot, called the insurrectionists “peaceful patriots” who were “harassed.”

Rep. Jody Hice (R-Ga.) even claimed that the real victims were Trump supporters.

And Trump has said the rioters were “hugging and kissing” the police.

Video from Fanone’s bodycam broadcast on CNN ― footage he watched with Lemon ― showed otherwise. He was assaulted by the mob, beaten with a flagpole and zapped with a stun gun:

Defending against ANTIFA and BLM should keep them busy, plenty of evidence of domestic terrorism in blue shitholes.

Comrade...comrade....the politically correct term when leftist engage in terrorism is "progress" and "mostly peaceful protest". :D

It's only rioting and terrorism when not-communist do it. ;)

Yeah, what’s a few thousand criminal trespassers, when there are dozens of insurrectionists invading auto part stores?

The Biden administration is aiming to bolster information sharing with technology companies, potentially expand hiring of intelligence analysts and improve screening of government employees for ties to domestic terrorism as part of a much-anticipated plan expected to be released on Tuesday detailing how the federal government should combat extremism.

President Biden ordered the review of how federal agencies addressed domestic extremism soon after coming into office, part of an effort to more aggressively acknowledge a national security threat that has grown since the Capitol riot on Jan. 6.

The 32-page plan synthesizes steps that have been recommended by national security officials — including bolstering relationships with social media companies and improving information sharing among law enforcement agencies — into one blueprint on how to more effectively identify extremists in the country after years of heightened focus on foreign terrorists.

"We cannot ignore this threat or wish it away,” Mr. Biden wrote in the strategy document. “Preventing domestic terrorism and reducing the factors that fuel it demand a multifaceted response across the federal government and beyond.”

This is in stark contrast to what we had where Trump discouraged homeland security analysts from even MENTIONING the term domestic terrorists.

He's just going to turn the country over to the foreign terrorists.

We don't seem to hear much out of those in this country any more, for some reason. I guess they're discouraged. But we hear a lot from domestic terrorists, who ain't.

Oh, you poor little Trumpettes. You're not going to just be able to help a corrupt, criminal con man carry through with a coup against the United States without opposition. What a pity. Thoughts and prayers.

Biden doesn't step up to do anything. Did you see how easily Boris Johnson waved him off like a child when he tried to interject some of his unhinged mumbling into the conversation? What a hapless dunce.

You saw that, Rightguide. But then, he could have presented a perfect blend of Teddy Roosevelt and Winston Churhcill, and you would have seen that.

With Attorney General Merrick Garland handling press duties, the Biden administration has announced its thoughtful, carefully prepared plan for attacking the problem of domestic terrorism, particularly the far-right variety that has posed the most serious threat to the American public for many years now. That will mean one thing for certain: Tucker Carlson is going to have a complete meltdown about it.

“Such attacks are not only unspeakable tragedies for the victim’s loved ones, they are also a tragedy for our country, an attack on our core ideals as a society,” Garland told reporters in announcing the strategy. “We must not only bring our federal resources to bear, we must adopt a broader societal response to tackle the problem’s deeper roots.”

There were concerns about what shape such a strategy might take when the president announced it in January immediately upon taking office, fueled in no small part by the eruption of far-right violence at the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol—particularly suggestions to pass new anti-terrorism laws and erect a top-heavy “war on terror”-style response. However, the plan released Tuesday by the administration has none of these characteristics, is sensibly focused on enforcing the abundant laws already on the books, and similarly on rooting out extremists from within the ranks of the law enforcement officers charged with enforcing those laws. No doubt it will drive Carlson over the edge.
