I've requested an edit to a story I'm writing, but I don't think the request is being addressed. (Basically, I'm trying to change a character's name.) I've made the request just as it was described in the FAQ once... The pending document was cleared out, but the changes were not applied. I've now made a second request, this time noting exactly what I need to be changed in the notes field. That was on 06/02. I submitted a new chapter for the same story yesterday, and it's already slated to be posted tomorrow. The requested edit? Hasn't been touched.

Is this a common problem? Is there anything I can do to address this elsewhere?

You may have to just have to delete the submission to make the changes yourself and resubmit it.

But if the story is already posted, then you're going to have to submit a request for it to be removed, which could take two or three days, so you can make the changes and resubmit it again.

My latest edit took a month for the change to show up. I thought this was unusual but it looks like I wasn't the only one to experience the delay.

Edited to add that previously, an edit usually showed up as soon as the pending was cleared.

I've never done it, but comments on the subject here on the discussion board indicates it takes a long time for edits to take effect. I'm finding submissions even taking a bit longer than usual in the last few weeks.

What do you mean by, "what I need to be changed in the notes field"?

You need to make the changes and submit a complete new text file, with the changes embedded. The site replaces the old file with the new file.

Your comment suggests to me you've asked the site to do a find/replace on the name. It doesn't work like that - you need to submit a complete new file and then wait. Edits are low priority, and can take twice as long as the usual processing cycle.

No, you don't ask for it to be removed. You submit the new file with exactly the same title plus the word EDIT in the title, plus a Note to the Editor summarising what you've done. The old file then gets replaced with the new, and the scores and comments don't get affected.

If you delete a story you lose all the metadata.

I did submit a completely new text. Did you miss the part where I indicated that I followed the directions in the FAQ?

No, I didn't ask admin to do a find and replace. I added the notes so they would see that it is different from the original and don't just throw it away thinking that it was exactly the same file.

I did submit a new story and waited. The edited story disappeared from my pending box and the changes were not applied. This is the second attempt. Hence the reason that, after 5 days, I'm writing here to get advice.

Does that clarify the situation?

Suggest you give it some more time (yes, it's too bad that's the way it is) and that whatever next step you have to take be a Private Message (PM system) directly to the sole submissions editor, Laurel. Fiddling around in the system itself may cause more problems than it cures.

It took about two weeks for some gentle edits to my first story to post. Give it some time.

I also edit stories a lot, and have edited stories recently.

1) Story edits are on the back of the line. They happen once in a while.

2) After approval -- some edits take place right away. Some edits take a few weeks before showing up.

Not sure why, but if your edit was approved, it'll eventually replace the older version of the story with the newer version.

Yes, thank you, it does. Just trying to help in circumstances that weren't entirely clear.

Five days is not waiting long enough - at times, first submissions can take that long; edits always take longer. And every time you resubmit, you're at the back of the queue. Patience is Literotica's favourite virtue. Also, getting it right the first time (but that's a different discussion entirely).
